Example: CEO profiling

When Mincom appointed Richard Mathews as its new CEO in January 2005, Recognition was set with the task of raising his profile in business and IT publications. Since his appointment, Richard has met with more than 20 business and IT journalists and has established himself as a spokesperson who is proactively sought out by the media for industry comment.

Recognition continues to work with Mincom's profile and on average Mincom's spokespeople speak to the media once a week.

Example: World Wealth Report

Coverage for Capgemini traditionally appears in IT publications. It’s annual “World Wealth Report” however has relevance to multiple target groups.

For the past three years, Recognition has successfully generated significant coverage of this report across multiple media outlets by focusing the media angle not on the findings – but on how Australia’s wealth compares to the rest of the world. This years report resulted in more than 19 media attending the media conference, with coverage appearing as the top story on all major news wires, on national TV and radio, in national, suburban and local daily newspapers, weekend newspapers, business magazines and financial trade publications.

In addition, as a result of this annual activity, journalists come to Recognition throughout the year requesting information on the World Wealth Report and as a result we have an extensive up to date list of interested media - ensuring these results continue to improve year on year.

Example: Launching new products

With the launch of Palm’s latest smartphone and first Windows mobile device in Australia – Palm’s mission was to create significant noise around the unveiling of the Palm Treo 750 smartphone.

Despite months of planning, when official approval was given by Palm’s partner carrier the announcement strategy and logistics resulted in a final press release and media luncheon being organised in less than 24 hours!

Celebrating the launch of the Treo 750, Palm hosted a highly successful media and analyst lunch.  Palm executives entertained the unprecedented gathering of journalists and analysts, forging stronger relationships and generating much excitement over the latest edition to the Treo family.

Following the media launch, the Treo 750 smartphone has received rave reviews with one journalist perceptively stating that “the best Windows Mobile smartphone has been created by Palm!”   During the two months following the launch, Recognition co-ordinated 20 plus products reviews and more than 25 pieces of coverage across a number of media outlets including national, metro and community newspapers, online, broadcast and monthly magazines.

Example: creating noise around a competitors launch

AMD’s archrival recently launched its latest product. AMD wanted to ensure that media coverage surrounding the launch featured AMD product and/or comment.

Recognition co-ordinated a series of mailers to review journalists looking at its competitor’s product – serving as a friendly reminder that AMD is hot on its competitors heels and to encourage more objective articles.

Recognition proactively contacted media around the time journalists were completing their reviews. Over a three-week period, playing on a ‘food for thought’ theme, Recognition made contact with key media sending the following mailers:

With each mailer, a note was attached detailing AMD’s recent highlights and offering a spokesperson for comment.

As a result of these mailers, the majority of the competitors product launch coverage mentioned AMD's product offering.
