Epicor launches newest version of Epicor ERP to support global growth, innovation, and competitive advantage

New release features powerful new capabilities for winning execution on the factory floor and beyond

Epicor Software Corporation, a global provider of industry-specific enterprise software to promote business growth, introduced the latest version of Epicor ERP, the global enterprise resource planning solution in use today by thousands of companies in 150 countries worldwide.

The latest release includes powerful new functionality to enable manufacturers to grow, innovate, and compete in today’s ever-changing global landscape. Marquee capabilities include mobile Field Service Automation (FSA) and Customer Relationship Management (CRM), as well as new business intelligence and visual analytics capabilities delivered via Epicor Data Discovery. A completely redesigned home page, Active Home Page, Smart Inventory Planning and Optimisation, and new country and industry-specific functionality are also key features of the new version.

“Businesses that adopt the latest technologies in cloud, analytics, and employee experience will be fit to grow and respond to the new digital challenges of tomorrow while achieving a competitive advantage right now,” said Scott Hays, senior vice president, product marketing, Epicor. “In this, our third major release in the past 13 months, Epicor continues to deliver cloud-enabled, industry-specific functionality, globalisation and localisation, mobility, and action-oriented analytics, with continued improvements in customer experience, ease-of-use, and performance.”

Role-based insights for better, faster execution

According to a recent Gartner report, “In 2018, data and analytics can’t be ignored—analytics will drive major innovation and disrupt established business models in the coming years.” (1) Epicor ERP equips personnel with critical insights at a glance for better, faster analysis and execution. Active Home Page provides dashboard views of role-based analytics with quick access to role-based functionality. This is made possible through Epicor Data Discovery (EDD), which supports rich on-demand data exploration to surface real-time operational and business performance insights to guide decision making. EDD encapsulates complex data sets into easy-to-understand graphs and charts to allow users to quickly gauge performance, understand trends and opportunities, drill down into data sets, and test out “what if” scenarios.

New mobile FSA and CRM

New mobile FSA and CRM functionality empowers sales and service personnel in the field with the added convenience of mobile access. Available in a cloud or on-premises delivery model, Epicor FSA features integrated mapping to support optimised scheduling and dispatch, and robust workflows to automate processes for asset management, contract, warranty and Service Level Agreement (SLAs), and management of service inventory.

Smart inventory planning and optimisation

Optimal inventory strategies are essential to drive profitability and growth. With Epicor Smart Inventory Planning and Optimisation—an integrated set of cloud-based capabilities for demand planning, inventory optimisation, and supply chain analytics—businesses can drive best-practice sales and inventory operations planning (SIOP) and monitor myriad factors to prescribe inventory policies and service levels that yield the lowest total cost.

Capabilities to fit specific business needs—around the world and on the shop floor

New country- and industry-specific functionality provides support for the job at hand, whether it’s tax processing in Penang or casting and coating in Kansas City. Functionality localised for specific geographic regions supports global business compliance and reporting, tax and payment processing, and international trade requirements, including legal numbering, and non-recoverable taxes.

Epicor customers using the Epicor Mattec MES solution will also benefit from improvements in MES-ERP integration to more easily account for various parameters and dependencies related to jobs, scheduling, operators, and/or machines.

Upgrading with ease

Committed to providing positive experiences for its customers, Epicor has focused on “ease of everything” from deployment and education through support, upgrades, and maintenance, resulting in greater profitability, productivity, and growth. New enhancements make it easier than ever for manufacturers to upgrade to the latest version of Epicor ERP to leverage new features and functionality to support growth and competitive advantage.

The latest version of Epicor ERP is now generally available worldwide, however, some functionality such as FSA and Mobile CRM, while available in the United States, is not available in all regions, and is expected to become generally available globally in 2018.

“Upgrading Epicor ERP is now easier than ever before, which allows us to go through the upgrade process with minimal business disruption,” said Martine Kennedy, IT project manager with Windsor Mold Group. The company has leveraged Epicor ERP since 2010 to support operational excellence. The Windsor, Ontario-based company’s automotive components division was named a Supplier of the Year by General Motors in 2016.

Jargon is holding Australian businesses back from new technology investment, says Epicor

Global enterprise software specialist calls for vendors to engage with customers in business language, instead of tech buzzwords

With technology jargon constantly changing, business professionals around the world are struggling to gain a proper understanding of the technologies they need to embrace, to shape the future of their businesses. This is one of the findings of a study from Epicor Software Corporation, a global provider of industry-specific enterprise software to promote business growth. The global survey of business decision makers and employees, which set out to understand the key drivers for business growth, has found a worrying lack of understanding around industry terminology in Australia.

One-in-three Australian business leaders admitted they had heard of, but were not familiar with, common technology terms such as big data (30%) and cloud software-as-a-service (36%). This is despite the fact that many technologists moved on from talking about these as trends years ago, and are now exploring the strategic use of innovative technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), digital twins, and conversational systems.

Applied AI, advanced machine learning, and intelligent things made the ‘Top 10 Strategic Technology Trends for 2017’ (1) published by Gartner, yet Epicor research suggests Australian users are even less comfortable with these terms than cloud and big data. Around one-in-three respondents admitted they are unfamiliar with the Internet of Things (42%), 3D printing (28%) and machine learning (32%) and many had never heard of these innovations at all.

A prolific amount of jargon in the fast-changing technology world might account for the fact that so many business professionals are unfamiliar with the key innovations affecting their sector, as they happen, despite recognising the important role technology has to play in business.

Although they find the jargon baffling, business professionals do recognise the importance of technology investments for driving the growth of their businesses. The same research found that 88% of fast-growing businesses consider IT investment to be a high priority, compared to just 41% of businesses experiencing weak growth. In addition, almost half (47%) agree that IT will help their organisations overcome future challenges in the market, work more efficiently (38%) and plan better (33%).

“It appears that many businesses are convinced of the importance of technology investments—and many are reaping the rewards. Yet some are not fully aware of the latest technologies available to them, and it’s possible that the complex terminology and fast-changing landscape could be factors here,” said Celia Fleischaker, executive vice president and chief marketing officer at Epicor Software. “This is concerning because if business leaders cannot tell their AI from their IoT, or see the potential of a smart and connected factory, they may hold back from investing in the latest technologies. Businesses are tired of being baffled by buzzwords and jargon and we believe that it is time vendors and the technology community did more to engage with distributors, manufacturers or retailers in their own language. Talking about the business benefits that new technology can bring will help organisations to make critical decisions for the future.”

John Preiditsch, president at Six S Partners Inc. said, “The customers we work with on a day-to-day basis are more concerned with the business outcomes of the technology we sell, rather than the precise details of the technology itself. Businesses need to justify every investment in new technology, and talking in jargon or technical terms can put decision makers off and make that justification challenging when there is a disparity over language. During my last 30 years in the ERP market — 10 years as an Epicor value-added ERP reseller partner — I’ve found that talking the language of business and about the impact and payback of the investment, rather than the language of AI, IoT or technical terminology, is much more effective when it comes to helping our customers fully embrace and envision the use of the latest technologies.”

The research, conducted by Morar Consulting on behalf of Epicor, questioned 2,450 business decision makers and employees in businesses in 12 countries across the globe, about their growth performance in the last 12 months. For further information on the research, go to http://ow.ly/sD6q309fJ5J

Major Australian food business Annex chooses Epicor ERP for growth

End-to-end solution to manage food manufacturing and packaging business, from ‘quote to cash’

Epicor Software Corporation, a global provider of industry-specific enterprise software to promote business growth, has announced that Annex, a major Australian contract food manufacturer and packing business, is implementing Epicor ERP, the global enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution.

Operating out of Melbourne in the health food and snacking industry, Annex makes, packages, and distributes products for global food brands such as CadburyTM, NestleTM and Kellogg’s®. Over the past 20 years, the company has evolved literally from the kitchen table into a multimillion dollar business with an average daily workforce of over 250 staff and contractors.

As a result of acquiring another business in 2007, Annex was operating multiple and separate systems. After years of ‘coping’ Annex knew that in order to grow the business efficiently it would need an all in one system. The process began in 2015 when around 25 ERP vendors were considered. By June 2016, the list had been reduced to three vendors.

Ashley Turner, director, Annex said, “We were using disparate systems and had customised them beyond support. We had ongoing problems and it had become clear that we needed an all in one system that would efficiently support our growth.”

By December 2016, a decision was made to implement Epicor ERP along with Epicor Knowledge Mentor to support enhanced learning.

“Annex needs smart tools to be able to run a smarter business, and Epicor completely understands this,” Turner said. “During the selection process they often finished our sentences for us—they understood the challenge that well. When discussing concepts like unit of measure, Epicor was there with the solution.

“We chose Epicor ERP as it could manage our supply, manufacturing and distribution, giving us clear visibility into critical business information,” Turner continued. “Having accurate, timely, and meaningful data at our fingertips is absolutely essential for us to be able to service our customers and make smart business decisions. By switching to Epicor ERP, we will instantly save money by only paying one license for one system. However, the real value we’re expecting to be able to measure will be the time saved on data entry and the optimisation of our inventory, which will help reduce our costs.”

Epicor ERP solves the complex challenges of manufacturing, and positions businesses to grow profitably now and in the future. With a simplified and easy-to-use user experience, and an open framework, it enables stronger, fact-based decision making with built-in analytics. Epicor also provides the visibility needed to understand and better predict trends and decide on the correct mix of products and services in a portfolio.

“Epicor ERP offers businesses the industry-specific functionality and flexibility they need to support their customers and supply chain in today’s ever-changing world,” said Sabby Gill, executive vice president, international, Epicor Software. “Annex is a fast growing business and has experienced the growing pains you’d expect for and expanding health food and snacking business. The implementation of Epicor ERP will help to optimise sales and order management, warehouse management, inventory and forecasting. This will enable the business to focus on making smarter business decisions to fuel further growth.”
