Quest takes popular SQLServerPedia Cross-Platform to Oracle, cloud databases
65 syndicated bloggers and 200,000-plus visitors a month, SQL site is expanding
Sydney, Australia, 10 August 2010 - Quest Software today took its popular free online SQL Server knowledgebase, SQLServerPedia, cross-platform with the launch of two new online resources: OraDBPedia and CloudDBPedia.
Powered by Quest, yet driven by the community, SQLServerPedia has experienced massive growth since its inception in 2008, today syndicating 65 SQL-focused blogs — growing at a rate of about five new bloggers monthly — and drawing in more than 200,000 visitors on average each month. Like their predecessor, Quest’s new online communities will each offer product-neutral videos, podcasts, blogs, and community-run wikis.
Building upon SQLServerPedia’s success, Quest plans to continue expanding its online community initiatives beyond SQL Server, Oracle and cloud databases to serve the needs of database professionals tasked with managing multiple platforms, or who are eager to learn about emerging database technology like Hadoop and NoSQL.
Quest is home to several database management experts spanning various platforms, including SQL Server, Oracle, DB2, MySQL, Sybase and NoSQL/cloud, three of whom were named editors-in-chief for Quest’s educational sites.
- Iain Kick, a Quest consultant based in the UK, recently named SQLServerPedia’s new editor-in-chief.
- Jeff Smith, Quest systems consultant and Oracle domain expert, will perform editor-in-chief duties for OraDBPedia.
- CloudDBPedia will be led by Guy Harrison, Quest inventor of Toad® for Cloud Databases and an Oracle ACE.
Quest currently offers direct SQLServerPedia integration in its Toad®, Spotlight® and Foglight® database product lines, letting users search and access the site’s content, including videos and podcasts, directly from within the product.
Tom Sager, lead DBA, E.ON U.S. said, “Staying plugged in to your peers and the market means you’re invested in your career and increasing your value to your employer. Quest is doing a fantastic job helping us database pros do that by providing free content on SQLServerPedia, and now on community sites for Oracle and cloud databases.”
“As someone who manages a heterogeneous environment, having access to free online resources and communities across multiple database platforms is invaluable to helping me stay on top of best practices and emerging technology.”
Later this year, Quest plans to unveil codename “Lucy”, a new product initiative that will provide users with a cloud-based service extending the benefits of SQLServerPedia by providing personalised analyses and advice, and encouraging collaboration across users’ environments.
