Sydney, Australia – Calix has been recognised as an ABA100 Winner in The Australian Business Awards 2017 for the New Product Innovation Award.
Now in their twelfth year, The Australian Business Awards are an annual all-encompassing awards program which recognises organisations that demonstrate the core values of business innovation, product innovation, technological achievement and employee engagement via a set of comprehensive award categories.
Phil Hodgson, Calix’s CEO, said “The ABA100 Winner in New Product Innovation award reflects once again the company’s development efforts with every one of its products, especially in improving their application.”
The program seeks to engage with the world’s business, innovation and technology leaders through a global recognition and knowledge building initiative that is underpinned by the program’s established framework.
Since launching AQUA-Cal+, Calix has gained remarkable market knowledge and product development experience via its partners in the Philippines, Malaysia and Hong Kong. More recently, field trials also started in India, the world’s largest shrimp exporter, Indonesia and Thailand. Calix has also presented a paper on our continued success in yield improvement and disease prevention in prawn and shrimp farming at the Asia Pacific Aquaculture Conference (APA17) in Kuala Lumpur this year, attended by about 3,000 participants from 46 countries.
Phil Hodgson, said, “The award recognises Calix’s achievements in the research and development of its aquaculture product AQUA-Cal+. Calix developed AQUA-Cal+ as a safe, environmentally friendly water conditioner to directly address problems associated with intense aquaculture such as disease and pollution, and deliver improved feed performance and yield.”
The unique properties of AQUA-Cal+ arise from the formation and optimisation of reactive superoxide species in our magnesium hydroxide particles, as well as enhanced calcium, from Calix’s unique CFC technology. These special features work with the well-established acid neutralisation and water clarification properties of Magnesium Hydroxide Liquids to provide an enhanced environment for aquaculture.
“Today, companies are facing a competitive and continuously changing business landscape. In this context, the performance of companies depends more than ever on their flexibility, adaptability and responsiveness. New technological possibilities have the potential to transform the way companies operate within their respective industries with long-term gains in efficiency, productivity and customer loyalty,” Australian Business Awards Program Director, Ms Tara Johnston, said.
“Each year the ABA100 Winners are recognised for their commitment to business and product innovation and for their achievements in transforming business practices and end user experiences.
“The Australian Business Awards are proud to acknowledge the role of these leading corporate, government and non-government organisations for implementing innovative, well-managed high-performing business initiatives and for the research and development of their innovative products and services,” Ms Johnston added.
The Australian Business Awards program provides notable opportunities for high-performing organisations which implement world-class business initiatives and develop innovative products and services to be acknowledged and honoured for their achievements both nationally and internationally.
The World Business Awards Framework (WBA Framework) is utilised as a structured model of assessment that enables the participating organisations to be benchmarked against world class performance standards.

Calix is a multi-award-winning Australia technology company that is developing new processes and materials to solve global challenges.
The core technology is a world-first, patented “kiln” built in Bacchus Marsh, Victoria that produces “mineral honeycomb” – very highly active minerals!
Calix is using these minerals, which are safe and environmentally friendly, to improve waste water treatment and phosphate removal, help protect sewer assets from corrosion, and help improve food production from aquaculture and agriculture without anti-biotics, fungicides and pesticides.
Calix’s technology has also been adopted overseas, where we are working with some of the world’s largest companies, governments and research institutions on CO2 capture.
