The handset combines a mobile phone, pager, push-to-talk functionality, barcode scanner and access to Web-based applications in a single lightweight device.

As an easy-to-use, multi-function solution, the SpectraLink 8452 improves workplace efficiency by letting workers communicate and access data in a variety of ways from anywhere within the enterprise Wi-Fi network.

The barcode scanner in the Polycom SpectraLink 8452 handset has the capability to read both 1D and 2D barcode images in hundredths of a second from a scanning distance of up to 86.36 centimetres (34 inches) and from a wide range of horizontal and vertical scan angles.

The handset also features the legendary Polycom HD Voice™ sound quality for natural, crystal-clear conversations, a large colour display with a simple and intuitive user interface, enterprise-grade durability, simple provisioning and management and support for accessories such as battery packs and headsets.

The Polycom SpectraLink 8452 handset is in the process of qualification to display and share call and directory information via Microsoft® Lync™, which includes features such as presence and instant message information.

For long-term investment protection, the Polycom SpectraLink 8452 is the first enterprise-grade voice-over Wi-Fi handset to combine barcode scanning, web-based application integration with support for latest IEEE Wi-Fi standard (802.11n), and offers best-in-class warranty, maintenance and service offerings.

Sten Dyrmose, general manager, wireless solutions, Polycom, said, “The award-winning Polycom SpectraLink 8400 series, including the new 8452 phone, improves productivity and responsiveness of workers and meets the critical communication needs in rigorous environments such as hospitals, retail stores, factory floors and hotels.

“The multiple benefits of the handset also extend to the bottom line, delivering up to 40 per cent lower total cost of ownership than competing solutions.”

With the capability to encode about 65 times more data than 1D barcodes into a physically smaller label, 2D barcodes are quickly gaining popularity in the enterprise. This is especially true for industries where work is highly mobile and employees need instant access to data from the network in order to do their jobs. By integrating 2D barcode scanning technology in an enterprise-grade, durable handheld communications device, Polycom solves these challenges across a number of industry use cases, such as:
* healthcare, where clinical staff can increase patient safety by scanning barcodes on wristbands to obtain medical records and verify patient medication
* retail, where staff can offer better customer service by scanning barcodes for product inventory checks while interfacing with customers on the sales floor
* industrial manufacturing, where manufacturers scan barcodes to track parts and products through the supply chain.

The SpectraLink 8452 is available now. For more information, visit the product series page at www.polycom.com/sl8400.

October 24, 2011 – Wavelink, a value added distributor of business IP, wireless, communication and network security and access solutions, has announced that Sacred Heart School in Melbourne and The Lakes College in Brisbane have won a share of $25,000 in wireless technology in Meru Networks’ Winter of Wireless K-12 school promotion.

Ilan Rubin, managing director, Wavelink, said, “As the Australian distributor for Meru Networks, Wavelink is delighted to assist the two winning schools accelerate their wireless performance. While the original promotion was for one winner, the quality of responses and genuine need of the schools prompted Wavelink to award two wireless networks.

“Mobile computing initiatives are changing the way children learn in K-12 environments. Laptop carts, video learning and one-to-one computing programs have combined with small IT teams and shrinking budgets to drive the need for high density, simple to manage and intelligent wireless networks.

“Wavelink will work with The Lakes College and Sacred Heart School to ensure that the wireless networks we provide are tailored to meet the individual requirements of each school and deliver a wireless solution that simply works, letting teachers focus on teaching instead of dealing with IT issues.”

David Kleinschmidt, IT manager, The Lakes College, said, “The Lakes College prides itself on offering a high level of education for all students. The ongoing funding challenges of a new school mean that keeping up with the latest technology developments can be difficult.

“Winning the Meru Networks’ Winter of Wireless K-12 school promotion means that The Lakes College can now provide high quality wireless to all senior students on the 1:1 laptop program to effectively deliver learning and education programs, assessments and electronic textbooks without the high incidence of drop outs the students experience on the current network.

“The implementation will also mean improved connectivity for the whole school through the ability to add access points (AP’s) to the library and the languages classroom, enhancing learning for the whole school.”

Jan Hendry, Deputy Principal, Sacred Heart School, said, “At Sacred Heart School students use ICT equipment every day and all staff rely on the network coverage and internet speed for day-to-day teaching and administration. Technology in education is moving so fast, and having wireless access is critical to providing a flexible learning environment.

“Winning the Meru Networks’ Winter of Wireless K-12 school promotion means that Sacred Heart School can improve the speed and coverage of its existing network, which means students’ can increase their capabilities, knowledge and skills without being constrained to the current setup of the school.”

“In addition Sacred Heart School has been selected as one of five pilot schools in Melbourne for the new ultranet and ICON programs, giving the school the opportunity to showcase its ICT skills and knowledge to the broader community, leading the way in current practices and influencing decisions made by other educational institutions. The Meru Network’s implementation will let the school effectively participate in the pilot.”

September 9, 2011 – Meru Networks, Inc., a pioneer in 802.11n wireless LAN, has announced that it has acquired Identity Networks, provider of the industry’s most complete secure guest and device access management solution. Through the acquisition, Meru customers can easily provide secure, policy based, wired and wireless network access for guests and employees that bring their own devices (BYOD) into the enterprise.

The Identity Networks product has been used across the Meru installed base as an integrated, third-party security solution, and is proven to work in a variety of environments. It provides simple provisioning capabilities and automatic notification services that give guests their access credentials by email or SMS. It also includes powerful reporting, auditing and customisation capabilities. The Identity Networks system is highly scalable, flexible and decreases the IT burden of guest provisioning and management as guests can be given access by non-IT personnel such as reception and administrative staff members.

“Enterprises must provide secure, auditable access to hundreds, or even thousands of devices that enter the enterprise daily,” said Kamal Anand, senior vice president of Product Management. “Provisioning, managing and securing network access for guest and employee owned Wi-Fi devices can be a tedious and inefficient process—especially as the number and variety of devices multiplies within the environment. The addition of Identity Networks to the Meru family of security products builds upon our already strong security offerings, and provides another important component of overall network security. These advancements are critical as we look forward to the all wireless enterprise of the future.”

Melbourne, August 16, 2011 – Wavelink, a value added distributor of business IP, wireless, communication and network security and access solutions has announced the introduction of Digium® Switchvox 5.1, a new version that adds fixed mobile convergence (FMC) and further integration with third-party business applications into its full-featured and cost-effective voice over IP (VoIP) unified communications (UC) solution designed for small- to mid-sized businesses.

The new release enhances Switchvox mobility to allow users to seamlessly integrate any type of phone with Switchvox. Users can select up to six phones of any type, including VoIP, digital, analogue, smartphone or a soft phone, to converge with their Switchvox extension. The user can now route, record or transfer calls appropriately, at any location. Users of Switchvox SMB with active subscriptions can download version 5.1 to have access to these features at no cost.

Switchvox 5.1 is based on Asterisk, the world’s most widely adopted open source communications engine, and brings a new level of features and customisation to IT administrators, users and resellers. Additionally, version 5.1 includes more application programming interfaces (APIs) for greater customisation and integration with third-party business applications, giving businesses the ability to leverage their other IT investments, such as CRM, customer support, accounting and ERP systems. Switchvox 5.1 also features an enhanced user interface, more detailed reporting for calls and call queues, and detailed online support. With all of these features included in each Switchvox SMB unified communications system, customers can realise an average cost savings of up to 60 – 80 percent over comparable VoIP business phone systems.

“Mobile and remote workers need to be just as productive outside the office as they are inside, seamlessly moving between the two,” said Tristan Barnum, product line director for Switchvox at Digium. “Combined with a refreshed user interface that makes management simpler and faster, Switchvox also has a more powerful FMC solution, unlike any on the market. With other UC offerings, this functionality is treated as an add-on, requiring expensive licensing, special hardware and hours of training. With Switchvox, all features are included. Additionally, we’ve created more APIs that allow you the flexibility you need to integrate with the software you already use to drive your business.”

The free Switchvox Mobile application integrates Digium’s Switchvox SMB communications solution with Android as well as iPhone and BlackBerry devices at no extra cost to customers. With the Switchvox Mobile app, Switchvox SMB customers can:
* make, receive, transfer and record calls as if they were calling from the office extension
* check their call history
* view and change call rules, such as routing and forwarding
* change their out-of-office greeting
* access the company directory and return calls via email
* use the Switchvox app from their Android-based tablet to perform tasks such as returning voice messages using email.

The key Switchvox 5.1 UC features include:
* Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC) – Built-in integration for six phones, allowing for seamless transfers and recording from any phone. Find out more: http://www.digium.com/mobility
* Detailed Call Queue Reports and Logs – Granular call queue data for multiple queues and queue members.
* Additional Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) – Organisations can create custom integrations with third-party business applications for communications-enabledbusiness processes (CEBP). See a complete list: http://www.digium.com/switchvox/api
* Switchvox Graphical User Interface (GUI) – A newly refreshed Switchvox GUI simplifies the configuration for groups of users for administrators and users. See these and more features: http://www.digium.com/switchvox-features

“We are excited about many aspects of Switchvox 5.1, from its new graphical user interface-a significant and pleasant redesign that users will embrace-to the improved call queue reporting and ability to make group changes to users on the system,” said Jonathan Rusk, president of Chromis Technology, a telecommunications networking consultant and vendor. “We believe that the updated GUI and fixed mobile convergence will bring additional sales opportunities and increase our competitive edge.”

Wavelink, distributors of Polycom’s voice communications solutions, has announced the availability of Polycom's next-generation Polycom® SpectraLink® 8400 series handsets for wireless voice and data applications in Australia.

Melbourne, August 9, 2011 – Wavelink, distributors of Polycom’s voice communications solutions, has announced the availability of Polycom’s next-generation Polycom® SpectraLink® 8400 series handsets for wireless voice and data applications in Australia.

The Polycom SpectraLink 8400 series are the first in the industry to feature:
* a revolutionary standards-based application platform
* the most reliable form factor for enterprise use
* an integrated barcode reader
* Polycom’s renowned voice quality
* the industry’s broadest interoperability with 802.11a/b/g/n wireless infrastructure and market-leading unified communications (UC) platforms.

The SpectraLink 8400 series handsets are designed to improve productivity and responsiveness of mobile workers, meeting the critical communication needs in the healthcare, logistics, and retail industries, and deliver the industry’s lowest total cost of ownership – up to 33 per cent lower than competing systems.

Ilan Rubin, managing director, Wavelink, said, “The SpectraLink 8400 series is set to transform mobile UC in the workplace by providing voice and data over Wi-Fi capabilities letting companies leverage existing networks and giving employees real-time connectivity for data applications.

“Wavelink’s customers now have access to industry specific voice over wireless LAN handsets that meet their particular needs.”

The Polycom SpectraLink 8440 delivers the mobile voice and application access needed in 24-hour environments through easy-to-switch battery packs, while the SpectraLink 8450 features an integrated barcode reader for voice, data applications and data capture from one device.

The handsets work with 802.11n and legacy Wi-Fi networks providing robust yet reliable voice and data capabilities over the corporate network and extending the mobility capabilities of workers. They feature an XML-based application platform for out-of-the-box access to enterprise productivity applications, and can integrate with Microsoft Office Communications Server to provide instant messaging and presence capabilities.

Ben Guderian, vice president of wireless solutions at Polycom, said, “For solution providers, the handsets fit a niche that regular Wi-Fi handsets or even smartphones can’t. The scanner on the 8450, for example, is industrial grade and built for constant and heavy use.

“Barcoding is becoming critical in industries such as healthcare, with electronic medical records and medication administration. Scanners are available on smart phones, but it can take a while for a smart phone to power up, which just wouldn’t cut it. Plus healthcare workers need something that can read barcodes that may not be flat, such as on wristbands – something smartphone scanners are incapable of doing.

“Retail environments, and, indeed, any environment that does a lot of barcode scanning, are a good fit for these handsets. Best of all, they integrate with most industry access points and PBXs, so companies don’t have to perform a full-scale rip and replace to use the technology.

“It’s a compelling ROI in that it doesn’t cost a lot to implement the 8400 series handsets to improve the way people do business,” Guderian said.

Wavelink, a value added distributor of business IP, wireless, communication and network security and access solutions, announced that it has signed a distribution agreement with Bradford Networks, the best choice for network security in evolving IT environments.

Melbourne, July 14, 2011 – Wavelink, a value added distributor of business IP, wireless, communication and network security and access solutions, announced that it has signed a distribution agreement with Bradford Networks, the best choice for network security in evolving IT environments.

Wavelink is the first distributor in Australasia for Bradford.

According to Wavelink, the proliferation of smartphones and tablets, coupled with an increasing adoption of bring your own device (BYOD) policies, has lead many organisations to experience ratios of up to three-to-one devices per employee, creating new challenges for network and device management and security. This trend is occurring across a wide range of industry sectors, from enterprise through to education, healthcare, government and hospitality.

Bradford’s Network Sentry is the first network security offering that automatically identifies and profiles all devices and all users on a network, providing complete visibility and control to address the evolving challenges associated with the proliferation of network devices.

Ilan Rubin, managing director, Wavelink, said, “Bradford Networks’ solutions will enable Wavelink’s resellers to assist Australian organisations with managing the increasing number of mobile devices being used on their networks. Bradford’s Network Sentry helps address the top five challenges facing network managers today including visibility, security, control, reporting and compliance, and integration.

“The fact that Wavelink has been selected as the first distributor in the region for Bradford demonstrates the value that our business model, including our strong reseller channels, delivers to the market.

“Bradford’s solutions complement our existing portfolio and help businesses manage the multiple devices of employees and network guests. This is reinforced by Bradford’s close relationship and tight integration with Meru Networks’ wireless LAN solutions, also distributed by Wavelink,” continued Rubin.

Scott Tyson, international channel manager for Bradford Networks, said, “Wavelink is an ideal fit for Bradford’s global distribution expansion because of its strength in wireless technology, network access and security, and its focus on the same key verticals – enterprise, education, healthcare, government and hospitality.”

Bradford’s Network Sentry solution includes:
* Access Control – provides complete visibility and control across the entire network. Access Control ensures endpoint security compliance through automated controls letting businesses identify all authorised users and providing role-based access to appropriate network resources.

* Secure Guest Access – ensures secure and easy network access for networks guests. Secure Guest Access lets businesses easily register and manage guest devices on the network, and monitor and report on guest activity providing visibility and control of all guests while automating IT tasks.

* Device profiling – dynamically identifies and profiles all devices on the network – including mobile devices of varying types – and allows security policies to be assigned based on device type, location and access method, providing network-wide visibility with detailed logging and reporting on network connection activity.

-ENDS-

About Bradford Networks
Bradford Networks (www.bradfordnetworks.com) offers the best network security solutions for evolving IT environments. The company’s flexible Network Sentry platform is the first network security offering that can automatically identify and profile all devices and all users on a network, providing complete visibility and control. Hundreds of customers and millions of users worldwide rely on Bradford to secure their IP networks.
