Fluke 370 FC Series Clamp Meters log and trend measurements to pinpoint intermittent faults

Fluke LogoNovember 24, 2015 – Often the most frustrating task for electricians and maintenance technicians is to troubleshoot intermittent faults because they rarely occur at convenient times. The new Fluke Connect®-enabled 370 FC Series Clamp Meters log measurements to pinpoint intermittent faults precisely without the need for the technician to be present. Those measurements are then wirelessly transmitted to the Fluke Connect app on smartphones or tablets and automatically uploaded to the cloud, keeping technicians outside the arc flash zone and away from dangerous moving machinery, improving safety.

The CAT IV 600 V, CAT III 1000 V safety-rated clamp meters offer advanced troubleshooting performance to capture a wide range of measurements with a single tool, including:

  • proprietary in-rush measurement technology to filter out noise and capture motor starting current exactly as the circuit protection sees it
  • integrated variable frequency drive low pass filter (376 FC and 375 FC models only) for accurate motor drive measurements
  • true-rms voltage and current for accurate measurements on non-linear signals;
  • 500 mV dc measurement range to interface with other accessories (376 FC and 375 FC models only)
  • expanded measurement range to 2500 A ac with the iFlex flexible current probes, which provide access to large conductors in tight spaces.

As part of Fluke Connect® — the industry’s largest system of software and more than 30 wireless test tools — technicians can wirelessly transmit measurement data from the 370 FC Series clamp meters and other test tools to their smartphones for secure storage on the Fluke Cloud™ and team access from the field. With the Fluke Connect smartphone app, technicians can combine measurement data from multiple Fluke Connect test tools to create and share reports from the job site via email and collaborate in real time with other colleagues with ShareLive™ video calls, increasing productivity in the field.*

MET/TEMP II Software Temperature Calibration automates calibration of a wide range of temperature sensors for consistent, reliable results

Fluke LogoAugust 5, 2015 – Fluke Calibration introduces an upgrade of its MET/TEMP II Temperature Calibration Software, a comprehensive calibration solution for testing batches of sensors, calculating characterisation of coefficients, and generating calibration reports. The new version 5.0 adds compatibility with the Microsoft Windows 7 and 8 operating systems and support for Fluke Calibration’s most recent temperature calibration sources: the 9190A Ultra-Cool Field Metrology Well and 9118A Thermocouple Calibration Furnace.

MET/TEMP II automates batch calibrations of platinum resistance thermometers (PRTs), liquid-in-glass (LIGs) and bimetallic thermometers, thermistors, and a wide range of thermocouple sensors to standardise testing for consistent results no matter who performs the calibration. Virtually any sensor with a resistance or voltage output can be tested, up to 100 sensors at a time.

Manual calibration of temperature sensors can be expensive, time-consuming, and error prone. With MET/TEMP II, calibration technicians simply place test sensors in a heat source, connect them to a temperature readout, enter the setup information, and start the test. Hours of testing are performed while the technician is free to do other work. After the test is complete, the technician prints and signs the report and ships the sensors and report to the customer, helping to improve productivity and saving hours.

The intuitive interface guides the user through configuring and running calibration tests and reporting, making it easy to learn and use.

Market demand drives CenturyLink global data centre expansions

Century Link LogoJuly 23, 2015 CenturyLink, Inc. (NYSE: CTL) has announced the growth of its global data centre footprint to meet continued market demand. In the first half of 2015, CenturyLink completed data centre expansion projects in six markets: Boston, London, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Phoenix, Seattle and Washington, D.C. The company also grew its market presence into Australia and central Washington.

The expansions add approximately 10.8 megawatts of critical capacity, bringing CenturyLink’s global data centre capacity to more than 185 megawatts. The expanded facilities are built to support up to an additional 35 megawatts to meet future market demand.

“As enterprises increasingly consolidate their on-premise and sprawling data centre infrastructures, and move workloads to the cloud, they want outsourcing options that are flexible, reliable and in specific geographic regions,” said Drew Leonard, vice president of colocation product management at CenturyLink. “Many of our customers are turning to CenturyLink as their strategic partner as they move toward hybrid IT environments to help manage their legacy and cloud workloads. This allows them to focus on objectives tied to business goals instead of worrying about IT infrastructure operations.”

Additionally, CenturyLink expanded its reach in the Asia-Pacific region to address growing customer demand by expanding the company’s public cloud platform to the Asia-Pacific market and partnering with a data centre service provider within five Australian markets.

“CenturyLink continues to invest in meeting the increasing demands of our customers, including exploring new green technologies and expansion options in new and existing data centre markets,” Leonard said. “Our customers know we are resolute in our commitment to keeping their businesses operating 24/7.”

The company also continued to execute on its green energy initiatives by offering alternative energy options to customers through a new hydro-powered facility in central Washington, incorporating Bloom fuel cell technology into the Irvine, Calif., facility, and achieving Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification for the Minneapolis-St. Paul data centre expansion. CenturyLink also participates in carbon-reducing initiatives, including Climate Change Agreements (CCA) in the United Kingdom and Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) in the United States.

CenturyLink is committed to providing operational excellence in all of its data centres worldwide.  The company received the Network World Asia Data Centre Infrastructure Management award in 2015, and has completed and passed 12 Uptime Institute Management and Operations (M&O) audits in the past six months. All of the company’s data centres are expected to be M&O certified by the end of 2016.

CenturyLink currently offers more than 2.6 million square feet of gross raised floor space throughout North America, Europe and Asia Pacific.

New Fluke infrared camera lenses bring the temperature variances of even near-microscopic or far-distant objects into sharp focus

Fluke LogoJuly 8, 2015 – Infrared inspections often involve analysing temperature variations on something extremely small or too far away to see the needed detail with standard lenses. Two new lenses for Fluke infrared cameras bring those worlds into sharper focus. The 25 micron macro lens can identify defects that might otherwise be too small to see on targets like PCB boards. The new 4x telephoto lens gets users a four times magnified view of a target at a distance, so targets like a high electrical line or a tall flare stack can be easily inspected.

The two new lenses expand the Fluke portfolio of lenses for select infrared cameras of 320 x 240 resolution and under. The Fluke portfolio of lenses now includes standard, wide angle, macro, and 2x and 4x telephoto lenses—all precisely engineered germanium optics. All these lenses are easily exchanged between compatible cameras without the need to send the lens and camera back to the factory for calibration, eliminating the cost and downtime caused by shipping and additional calibration.

The 4x telephoto lens, which is compatible with Fluke® TiX560, TiX520, Ti400, Ti300, and Ti200 infrared cameras, helps identify problems in power utilities as small as a failed splice on a high electrical line while keeping technicians safely on the ground. In applications like petrochemical and metals refinement where explosive atmospheres, extreme heat, or dangerous electrical levels make keeping a safe distance critical, the telephoto lens makes distant details more viewable while keeping workers at a safer distance.

The 25 micron macro lens, which is compatible with Fluke TiX560 and TiX520 infrared cameras, lets technicians distinguish thermal variations across distances smaller than a human hair, making it ideal for applications in electronics/PCB board R&D, or anything else requiring near-microscopic level infrared resolution. The LaserSharp® Auto Focus button is used to set the focus at the optimal distance for the lens, eliminating the need to move the focus wheel by tiny amounts to get accurate, in-focus images, speeding infrared measurements.

“These new lenses represent Fluke’s continued drive to listen to and be involved with the application needs of customers,” said Henk Van Velze, managing director of Fluke Australia. “As technology changes and customers discover new applications for infrared technology, Fluke will continue to innovate in the area of infrared optics, as we have with our camera systems.”
