Fluke LogoAugust 5, 2015 – Fluke Calibration introduces an upgrade of its MET/TEMP II Temperature Calibration Software, a comprehensive calibration solution for testing batches of sensors, calculating characterisation of coefficients, and generating calibration reports. The new version 5.0 adds compatibility with the Microsoft Windows 7 and 8 operating systems and support for Fluke Calibration’s most recent temperature calibration sources: the 9190A Ultra-Cool Field Metrology Well and 9118A Thermocouple Calibration Furnace.

MET/TEMP II automates batch calibrations of platinum resistance thermometers (PRTs), liquid-in-glass (LIGs) and bimetallic thermometers, thermistors, and a wide range of thermocouple sensors to standardise testing for consistent results no matter who performs the calibration. Virtually any sensor with a resistance or voltage output can be tested, up to 100 sensors at a time.

Manual calibration of temperature sensors can be expensive, time-consuming, and error prone. With MET/TEMP II, calibration technicians simply place test sensors in a heat source, connect them to a temperature readout, enter the setup information, and start the test. Hours of testing are performed while the technician is free to do other work. After the test is complete, the technician prints and signs the report and ships the sensors and report to the customer, helping to improve productivity and saving hours.

The intuitive interface guides the user through configuring and running calibration tests and reporting, making it easy to learn and use.

Fluke LogoAugust 11, 2014Fluke Calibration introduces the 6003A Three Phase Electrical Power Source, a cost-effective instrument that provides the superior accuracy and performance of three independent phases in one compact device. The 6003A is accurate enough for calibration laboratories, with specifications of plus-or-minus 0.038 per cent for power and plus-or-minus 0.01 degree for phase. Its compact form factor also makes it easy to transport and maintain in manufacturing companies, electric utility meter shops, and other organisations that manufacture, maintain, and calibrate power meters, energy meters, power quality analysers, and similar tools.

The 6003A delivers the accuracy and features found in more expensive three-phase systems. It provides three independent phases of precise voltage and current. It also sources power quality phenomena, including harmonics, interharmonics, and dip/swell variations. It includes measurement capabilities for dc voltage, dc resistance, and frequency for measuring outputs from power and energy transducers.

Because it’s a single instrument, the 6003A is easier to transport to test workloads in situ, takes up less bench space, and is more cost effective to maintain than multi-piece units. Its graphical user interface enables users to set up complex harmonic signals quickly and easily. It also makes the instrument remarkably easy to learn and use, so new users become productive quickly.

Specialised capabilities can be added, including an energy option, which adds a pulse counter and pulse output; a power quality option that enables the 6003A to calibrate power quality instrumentation by generating up to 63 harmonics, an interharmonic, modulation (flicker), and dips and swells on all three channels; and a 90 A adapter with high-current leads that generates up to 90 A from a single current phase to manage high-current workloads.

The Fluke Calibration 96270A and 96040A Low Phase Noise RF Reference Sources simplify RF calibration systems

Fluke LogoJuly 24, 2014Fluke Calibration introduces the 96270A and 96040A Low Phase Noise RF Reference Sources, which simplify RF and microwave calibration systems by replacing many of the instruments and accessories in existing systems. The new reference sources are easy-to-use instruments for calibrating spectrum analysers, RF power sensors, and more. Because they do the job usually performed by multiple instruments they can cut the cost of RF calibration systems by up to half.

Unlike many RF calibration solutions, the 96270A and 96040A are designed specifically for RF calibration, with a calibration-oriented user interface that makes it easy to learn and operate. They feature “what you set is what you get” accurate signal delivery direct to the UUT input (up to 27 GHz in the 96270A). The integrated frequency counter (300 MHz in the 96270A; 50 MHz in the 96040A) and dual power meter readout in the 96270A eliminate the need for additional instruments.

The 96270A covers more than 80 per cent of the test points required for calibrating spectrum analyser models below 27 GHz, and nearly all spectrum analysers of any frequency range. “Self-characterisation” in the 96270A eliminates the need to perform and apply time-consuming calculations of correction factors for each component in the signal delivery system.

Automated with MET/CAL® Plus Calibration Management Software, the reference sources reduce complexity and calibration times, dramatically improving efficiency and increasing capacity by 50 per cent or more over manual and semi-automated methods.

Fluke Calibration 6135A/PMUCAL Phasor Measurement Unit Calibration System keeps smart grids running

Fc-6135a-pmu_01a_cJanuary 10, 2014 – Today’s smart grids rely on equipment called phasor measurement units (PMUs) to deliver real-time, mission critical data on the voltage, current, frequency, and phase within the distribution smart grid. For the smart grid system to work reliably, PMUs must be calibrated so that their data is consistent, accurate and credible, and so that models from different manufacturers are inter-operable.

NIST, The National Institute of Standards and Technology, felt so strongly about the need for a PMU calibrator that it awarded Fluke a development grant in 2010 to get the project underway. The resulting Fluke Calibration 6135A/PMUCAL Phasor Measurement Unit Calibration System is the only automated and traceable PMU calibration system available today. It fills an essential need for PMU designers and manufacturers, national metrology institutes, third party calibration houses and electrical utilities.

The 6135A/PMUCAL is an integrated system of six components that completes the approximately 600 tests that certify a PMU configuration meets the latest performance standards of the IEEE Standard for Synchrophasor Measurements for Power Systems (IEEE C37.118.1:2011 and IEEE C37.242). The system completes the tests in six-to-12 hours versus two-to-six weeks with manual test methods. Because it’s an automated system even non-experts can start using it quickly to perform a complete complement of required tests.

The system, which is mounted in a 19-inch rack with an integrated test connection panel, includes a server PC, GPS receiver, system timing unit and three-phase 6135A Electrical Power Standard. It also includes calibration software that lets users create and store personality profiles for the PMUs tested frequently as well as run full certification tests and a wide range of automated and interactive tests.

The test system architecture lets a user-provided client PC access the test system over the Internet from anywhere in the world. System accuracy yields a test accuracy ratio of 10:1 against the 118.1 PMU specifications.

The Fluke 1586A Super-DAQ Precision Temperature Scanner delivers best-in-class accuracy for critical measurements

With up to 40 analogue input channels and scan rates as fast as 10 channels per second, the Super-DAQ is ideal for applications such as thermal mapping, process sensor calibration, quality control testing, lifecycle testing, process monitoring and environmental testing common in various industries including pharmaceutical, biotechnology, food processing, aerospace and automotive.

With the flexibility of both internal and external input modules, the 1586A is designed for use on the factory floor where channel count and scan speeds are important and in the calibration laboratory where accuracy and quick input connections are required.

The 1586A can measure thermocouples, platinum resistance thermometers (PRTs), thermistors, dc current, dc voltage and resistance. It offers best-in-class temperature measurement accuracy of plus-or-minus 0.005 degrees Celsius for PRTs, 0.5 degrees Celsius for thermocouples, and 0.002 degrees Celsius for thermistors.

The Super-DAQ has a colour display with channel indicators that can chart up to four channels simultaneously. It features four modes of operation (scan, monitor, measure, and digital multimeter) and alarms that indicate when a channel measurement exceeds an assigned high or low limit.

It has 20 MB of on-board memory for storing data and configuration files, a USB port to collect and store files directly to a USB drive and a LAN interface for easy connection to PCs and networks. The 9190A is ideal for pharmaceutical, biomedical and food processing applications that demand strict quality control and regulatory process compliance. This includes on-location validation and calibration of RTDs, thermocouples, thermometers and other temperature sensors.

The 9190A conforms to EURAMET cg-13 guidelines for best measurement practices for temperature dry-block calibrators. New “Stik” thermometers from Fluke Calibration are tougher and safer than mercury thermometers

Sydney, February 3, 2011 – Fluke Calibration, a global leader in calibration instrumentation and software, has introduced the 1551A Ex and 1552A Ex “Stik” Thermometers, engineered to give temperature calibration specialists the durable, intrinsically-safe digital instrument they need for precision temperature calibration.

The Fluke 1551A and 1552A “Stik” Thermometers provide a highly precise and durable digital replacement for mercury-in-glass thermometers. They are intrinsically safe (ATEX and IECEx compliant), so they can be used safely where potentially explosive gases may be present. More durable than mercury-in-glass thermometers, they can be used reliably outdoors or on the production floor.

Process manufacturers of chemical, pharmaceutical, food or petroleum products require accurate temperature measurements. Since temperature sensors are subject to drift with time, regular calibration or verification against a reliable reference thermometer is required and finding a reference thermometer that is accurate, repeatable and robust has been a challenge.

Although mercury thermometers are accurate and repeatable, they are fragile and pose the risk of a mercury spill, which can endanger the environment and human health.

The Fluke “Stik” Thermometers help solve this problem, and get production managers out of a potential bind, by providing the measurement accuracy, durability and safety required in industries such as oil and gas production and petrochemicals—with no mercury hazard.

The 1551A Ex “Stik” Thermometer covers a temperature range of –50 °C to 160 °C (–58 °F to 320 °F). The model 1552A Ex covers a range of –80 °C to 300 °C (–112 °F to 572 °F). Both models are accurate to ± 0.05 °C over their full temperature range.

The stainless steel probe and digital readout of the Fluke 1551A Ex and 1152A Ex “Stik” Thermometers are fixed together and calibrated as a system. The accuracy specification is easy to understand since it includes all uncertainty components, including drift, for up to one year. Unlike competing products, the large backlit LCD display rotates 90 degrees, making it easy to read from any angle.

A user-configurable stability/trend indicator lets the technician know when temperature is stable enough to record an accurate measurement. A user-settable auto-off function extends typical battery life to three hundred hours. A low-battery indicator and stop-measure function prevent erroneous measurements from being made due to low battery life. A simple three-point calibration function lets you easily and accurately calibrate the “Stik”? Thermometer. Data logging to internal memory of up to 10,000 time-stamped measurements is optionally available.
