Polycom divestment of their Enterprise Wireless Solutions presents new opportunities for Wavelink

Wavelink LogoMay 16, 2012Wavelink, a value added distributor of business IP, wireless, communication and network security and access solutions sees a number of opportunities arising from the recently announced divestment by Polycom of their Enterprise Solutions (EWS) business.

The intent to sell the EWS portfolio, comprised of SpectraLink Wi-Fi and KIRK DECT solutions, infrastructure and accessories, to an affiliate of Sun Capital Partners, Inc. was announced by Polycom on May 10.

With the transfer of ownership expected to be completed in Q3, 2012, the former Polycom EWS business will become an independent company. The divestiture will leverage the expertise of the SpectraLink and KIRK enterprise wireless teams, delivering improved support to the unique needs of Polycom’s customers.

Ilan Rubin, Managing Director, Wavelink, said, “Wavelink commenced sales of KIRK DECT in 1998 and was selling SpectraLink Wi-Fi well before both brands were acquired by Polycom in 2007. We have over 5,000 wireless voice systems installed throughout Australia and New Zealand. We will continue to sell, support and build programs around the EWS products to ensure that our channel partners, and customers, have access to the best solutions to meet their needs. The EWS products are recognised market leaders and will form an important part of Wavelink’s business for many years to come.

“As Polycom have acknowledged, their successes in the videoconferencing space have taken attention away from their EWS products. We expect that not only will there now be greater focus, but also more investment in the business including in product development and marketing. Wavelink will also have much tighter direct engagement with the supplier. The new independent company will ultimately yield more opportunities and better outcomes for Wavelink’s channel partners and customers.”

Sten Dyrmose, Vice President and General Manager, EWS said “The team expects to build on our successes and continue to develop comprehensive enterprise wireless solutions. By combining the expertise of both teams, we believe we’ll have one laser-focused organisation that will thrive, innovate, and drive new solutions into the market faster than our competition.

“We will lead this global organisation, with functional teams consisting of Sales, Global Services, Global Alliances, Operations, Product Management and Marketing, Finance, and Research and Development. As part of our strategy for the future, we plan to continue to enrich our portfolio of products, services and software. In 2012, our goals are to have an intense focus on verticals markets, increased sales and channel support, and improved communications for customer support issues. We also plan to dedicate resources to providing more value-added applications and services for the Wi-Fi and DECT lines.”

The affordable handsets add to the Polycom® KIRK® family of Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications (DECT) handsets, which for years have been used in healthcare, manufacturing, retail and other demanding work environments.

The new Polycom KIRK Butterfly series features best-in-class voice quality and call reliability, and interoperability with major IP PBX systems and soon Microsoft® Lync™ (in the process of Microsoft qualification).

The handsets interoperate with all of the Polycom® KIRK® Wireless Servers, which can support small businesses to enterprise systems. The handsets feature a newly designed user interface, including a 4-way navigation key with icons, which makes the handsets easy for employees to operate, while also shortening response time and streamlining workflow.

This makes it ideal for businesses of all sizes to improve employee productivity, mobility, reaction time, and personal safety.

Industry analysts report that mobility solutions, such as DECT phones, are becoming essential to the competitiveness of today’s organisations. And, support for technologies such as Internet protocol (IP) and session initiation protocol (SIP), is aiding market growth of DECT phones worldwide. Frost and Sullivan anticipate DECT telephony among global enterprises will grow to $575 million in 2017 with a CAGR of 11.6 per cent*.

Sten Dyrmose, general manager, wireless solutions, Polycom, said, “Polycom’s KIRK Butterfly Handset Series is a dramatic new entrant to a market that wants great value, style and customisation without sacrificing the exceptional quality and reliability that they’ve come to expect from the Polycom and KIRK brands.”

New series delivers design at its best

* Each handset features a soft-to-the-touch casing available in five vibrant colours so customers can choose the colour that complements their logo or brand identity, or combine different colours to designate separate workgroups or departments. A matching accessory combines a desk stand and belt clip to maximise individual usage options.
* The Polycom KIRK Butterfly series supports analog or Voice over IP environments (VoIP) – or a combination of both – while Polycom’s growing list of Polycom VoIP Field Verified Partners ensures that the new handsets have been verified to work with a broad suite of leading PBX systems.
* With support for open industry protocols, the new series can also be used with the full range of existing Polycom KIRK handsets and KIRK Wireless Server Solutions.
* In conjunction with Polycom KIRK Wireless Servers, the handsets can scale from four to more than 4,000 users.

Using the Polycom KIRK Wireless Server 6000, the handsets will be able to be easily added to large enterprise installations that are using Microsoft Lync (pending Microsoft qualification), letting customers mix the Polycom KIRK Butterfly handsets with other Polycom KIRK products, such as the high-end professional handsets and vertical industry-specific handsets that were designed specifically for workers in manufacturing, healthcare and other rugged environments.

Polycom launches Polycom® SpectraLink® 8452, the first enterprise-grade voice-over Wi-Fi handset with integrated 2D barcode scanner

Wavelink LogoJanuary 30, 2012Wavelink, distributors of Polycom’s voice communications solutions, has announced the availability of the Polycom® SpectraLink® 8452, the first enterprise-grade voice-over Wi-Fi handset with an integrated 2D barcode scanner.

The handset combines a mobile phone, pager, push-to-talk functionality, barcode scanner and access to Web-based applications in a single lightweight device.

As an easy-to-use, multi-function solution, the SpectraLink 8452 improves workplace efficiency by letting workers communicate and access data in a variety of ways from anywhere within the enterprise Wi-Fi network.

The barcode scanner in the Polycom SpectraLink 8452 handset has the capability to read both 1D and 2D barcode images in hundredths of a second from a scanning distance of up to 86.36 centimetres (34 inches) and from a wide range of horizontal and vertical scan angles.

The handset also features the legendary Polycom HD Voice™ sound quality for natural, crystal-clear conversations, a large colour display with a simple and intuitive user interface, enterprise-grade durability, simple provisioning and management and support for accessories such as battery packs and headsets.

The Polycom SpectraLink 8452 handset is in the process of qualification to display and share call and directory information via Microsoft® Lync™, which includes features such as presence and instant message information.

For long-term investment protection, the Polycom SpectraLink 8452 is the first enterprise-grade voice-over Wi-Fi handset to combine barcode scanning, web-based application integration with support for latest IEEE Wi-Fi standard (802.11n), and offers best-in-class warranty, maintenance and service offerings.

Sten Dyrmose, general manager, wireless solutions, Polycom, said,  “The award-winning Polycom SpectraLink 8400 series, including the new 8452 phone, improves productivity and responsiveness of workers and meets the critical communication needs in rigorous environments such as hospitals, retail stores, factory floors and hotels.

“The multiple benefits of the handset also extend to the bottom line, delivering up to 40 per cent lower total cost of ownership than competing solutions.”

With the capability to encode about 65 times more data than 1D barcodes into a physically smaller label, 2D barcodes are quickly gaining popularity in the enterprise. This is especially true for industries where work is highly mobile and employees need instant access to data from the network in order to do their jobs. By integrating 2D barcode scanning technology in an enterprise-grade, durable handheld communications device, Polycom solves these challenges across a number of industry use cases, such as:
* healthcare, where clinical staff can increase patient safety by scanning barcodes on wristbands to obtain medical records and verify patient medication
* retail, where staff can offer better customer service by scanning barcodes for product inventory checks while interfacing with customers on the sales floor
* industrial manufacturing, where manufacturers scan barcodes to track parts and products through the supply chain.

The SpectraLink 8452 is available now. For more information, visit the product series page at www.polycom.com/sl8400.

Polycom SpectraLink 8400 series available now in Australia

Melbourne, August 9, 2011Wavelink, distributors of Polycom’s voice communications solutions, has announced the availability of Polycom’s next-generation Polycom® SpectraLink® 8400 series handsets for wireless voice and data applications in Australia.

The Polycom SpectraLink 8400 series are the first in the industry to feature:
* a revolutionary standards-based application platform
* the most reliable form factor for enterprise use
* an integrated barcode reader
* Polycom’s renowned voice quality
* the industry’s broadest interoperability with 802.11a/b/g/n wireless infrastructure and market-leading unified communications (UC) platforms.

The SpectraLink 8400 series handsets are designed to improve productivity and responsiveness of mobile workers, meeting the critical communication needs in the healthcare, logistics, and retail industries, and deliver the industry’s lowest total cost of ownership – up to 33 per cent lower than competing systems.

Ilan Rubin, managing director, Wavelink, said, “The SpectraLink 8400 series is set to transform mobile UC in the workplace by providing voice and data over Wi-Fi capabilities letting companies leverage existing networks and giving employees real-time connectivity for data applications.

“Wavelink’s customers now have access to industry specific voice over wireless LAN handsets that meet their particular needs.”

The Polycom SpectraLink 8440 delivers the mobile voice and application access needed in 24-hour environments through easy-to-switch battery packs, while the SpectraLink 8450 features an integrated barcode reader for voice, data applications and data capture from one device.

The handsets work with 802.11n and legacy Wi-Fi networks providing robust yet reliable voice and data capabilities over the corporate network and extending the mobility capabilities of workers. They feature an XML-based application platform for out-of-the-box access to enterprise productivity applications, and can integrate with Microsoft Office Communications Server to provide instant messaging and presence capabilities.

Ben Guderian, vice president of wireless solutions at Polycom, said, “For solution providers, the handsets fit a niche that regular Wi-Fi handsets or even smartphones can’t. The scanner on the 8450, for example, is industrial grade and built for constant and heavy use.

“Barcoding is becoming critical in industries such as healthcare, with electronic medical records and medication administration. Scanners are available on smart phones, but it can take a while for a smart phone to power up, which just wouldn’t cut it. Plus healthcare workers need something that can read barcodes that may not be flat, such as on wristbands – something smartphone scanners are incapable of doing.

“Retail environments, and, indeed, any environment that does a lot of barcode scanning, are a good fit for these handsets. Best of all, they integrate with most industry access points and PBXs, so companies don’t have to perform a full-scale rip and replace to use the technology.

“It’s a compelling ROI in that it doesn’t cost a lot to implement the 8400 series handsets to improve the way people do business,” Guderian said.

Polycom meets high demands of healthcare industry with new KIRK 70-Series DECT handsets

Specialised features support hygiene and personal safety needs

KIRK 7000Sydney, July 1, 2010 – Polycom has released two new wireless handsets in the KIRK 70-Handset Series, which have been designed to meet the specific demands of the healthcare industry. The new KIRK 7020 and 7040 handsets join the 7010 model which was released in May.

The KIRK 70 series of DECT handsets combine hygiene requirements with enhanced responsiveness and personal safety in environments where mobility and communication are vital.

Targeted specifically at the healthcare sector, the safety features of the KIRK 7020 and 7040 handsets are designed to increase efficiency and better patient care. These new handsets mean staff have greater mobility and while remaining within reach when summoned from anywhere within the hospital grounds.

The KIRK 70 series features safety components that can be integrated with third-party applications. When integrated with third-party nurse call or equipment monitoring systems, the alarm button, light diode and easy identifiable alarm icons allow for immediate redirecting of alarms to the correct personnel.

The KIRK 7040 Handset is equipped with additional safety features, including automatic alarms such as man down, no movement and running detector for the protection of staff from violent patients or in other critical situations. For example, staff working at risk in psychiatric care can summon help immediately, and the automatic alarm triggered by either the sensor or the tear-off string alarm secures a fast response.

To avoid the spreading of bacteria, all KIRK 70-Handsets are disinfectant resistant and may be cleaned with disinfectants used in hospitals. The KIRK 7020 and the KIRK 7040 handsets are equipped with a membrane keypad making it even easier to clean the surface.

For ultimate hygiene requirements, telephone calls can be answered automatically via the headset – wired for the KIRK 7020, and wired and Bluetooth-enabled for the KIRK 7040 – without activating any buttons on the handset or on the headset.

The KIRK 7020 and 7040 handsets are ruggedised and IP64 compliant, which means that they are dust-tight and protected against splashing water so that carers can help patients in wet areas without removing the handsets.

Polycom KIRK DECT systems and handsets are distributed exclusively by Wavelink Communications in Australia.

KIRK 7010

Polycom has introduced the new KIRK 7010 handset – the first in a series of DECT handsets specifically designed to meet the needs of the healthcare sector.

The KIRK 7010 handset provides a ‘ruggedised’ and application-enabled solution for healthcare environments.

The handset enables clinical and administrative users to benefit from wireless telephony within hospitals, aged care and clinics by providing features specifically required in these environments, including:

• handset protection against splashing water (IP54) when assisting patients in wet areas
• disinfectant resistant handset to avoid the spread of bacteria when caring from one patient to another
• support of alarm icons for third-party nurse call integration, patient and equipment monitoring

Polycom KIRK DECT systems and handsets are distributed exclusively by Wavelink Communications in Australia.
