Small and medium-sized businesses prefer cloud-first print management with edge computing

Sydney, AUSTRALIA – Y Soft Corporation has released the findings of a global, independent survey that explored the cloud and cloud-based print management preferences of small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs).

The report, Cloud Print Management, is based on a survey of technology decision makers regarding their use of cloud technology today, their concerns and preferences for using cloud technology in general, and specifically for print management services. Additionally, their knowledge, use and preference for edge computing was of interest.

As a leader in enterprise workflow solutions for print management and document capture, Y Soft wanted to study SMB’s preference and concern for adopting cloud and edge technology. Y Soft has been a provider of edge technology for use in large enterprises since 2008 and its use in SMB could be equally beneficial, Y Soft hypothesised.

The survey results provided many interesting insights on SMB technology use and preferences. Highlights include:

  • Public cloud application use is ubiquitous – 93 per cent (85 per cent in Australia) of SMBs use public cloud applications, typically Microsoft Office 365 or similar
  • 50 per cent (45 per cent in Australia) of SMBs have a cloud-first preference and 10 per cent (6 per cent in Australia) will only use cloud applications
  • Security is a concern for SMBs across all applications; 52 per cent (48 per cent in Australia) cited security as a top concern whereas 61 per cent (57 per cent in Australia) cited it as a top concern for cloud-based print management

However, mid-sized companies, U.S.-based companies and companies with more than 50 printers, are the most bullish on cloud-based print management. Over all respondents, 29 per cent (28 per cent in Australia) are planning to purchase cloud-based print management services within the next 12 months.

  • 35 per cent (26 per cent in Australia) of SMBs already use edge computing and 56 per cent (55 per cent in Australia) prefer cloud print management services used with an edge device in place.

The edge device as described in the survey would enable print jobs to be processed locally on the company’s network. Considering SMB’s concern for cloud-based print management security, (61 per cent global, 57 per cent in Australia), this indicates that the additional security peace of mind that comes with edge computing and its other benefits are desired.

“As we speak to customers and partners and study market trends, SMB’s existing use and preference for edge computing as part of cloud-based print services, confirms our belief that edge devices have an extremely important role,” said Ondřej Krajíček, Y Soft Chief Technology Strategist. “Unlike their enterprise counterparts, SMB’s appetite for a cloud-first approach is much larger. We believe, however, that this will change, and organisations of all sizes will demand cloud-first for all services, including print management,” he added.

Migration to cloud applications has been very successful, in fact, too successful. Due to latency, bandwidth and locations where Internet connection is slow or unreliable, processing data closer to where the data lives using edge computing is now a matter of need. In the case of print, by processing the job locally on the company’s network, the company has extra peace of mind for their security and privacy concerns. The results of the survey indicate this need is well understood within SMB.

The full report, which includes additional insights on how SMBs view print management as part of digital transformation, and participant demographics, can be downloaded from Y Soft’s website.

Y Soft enhances 3D printing experience

Y Soft enhances 3D printing experience

Ease of use updates enhance education’s use of 3D printing

Sydney, AustraliaY Soft® Corporation, a leading enterprise office solution provider has announced new features for YSoft be3D eDee, a 3D print management solution designed specifically for education.

The eDee solution is comprised of a fully-enclosed 3D printer; DeeControl – desktop software that adds 3D layering information to a 3D model file; YSoft SafeQ print management software; filament and accessories. As a solution designed for education, eDee’s safety and ease of use are attractive to schools, especially those with a varied range of student ages.

New features include expanded language support for DeeControl. In addition to English and Czech, DeeControl is now available in Danish, Norwegian and Spanish for both Windows and Mac versions. DeeControl is available as a free download on the company’s website.

When using the eDee 3D printer, students are now notified if the 3D printer’s filament supply is not enough for the intended print job. 3D printing, depending on the size and complexity of the model, may take hours to print and the amount of filament used can vary.

Knowing in advance if the printer has enough filament will prevent the job being paused part way through printing and gives the student the option to either replace the filament spool or use another eDee 3D printer. The school’s 3D printer administrator can receive a notification if a job has started that will not finish due to an insufficient filament amount. This new feature, Software Filament Counter, is available for new eDee printers and existing eDee printers through a free firmware update.

Y Soft also released a video containing testimonials from teachers and students. In the video, teachers discuss how 3D printing provides a unique learning experience, valuable skills and the importance of ease of use and safety when choosing eDee; students talk about what they are able to achieve. The video is available in Czech with English subtitles.

Sydney, Australia – Y Soft® Corporation, a leading enterprise office solution provider, today has announced that its sales volume for fiscal year 2018 (July 2017 to June 2018) grew by 45 per cent over fiscal year 2017 to (USD) 45 million, nearly 1 Billion in Czech Crowns, attributed in part to its multi-product platform strategy and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) pricing model.

Y Soft announced the general availability of YSoft SafeQ 6 as a platform in fiscal year 2017. The platform extended the YSoft SafeQ core product, print management, and included new product capabilities including automated scan workflows and 3D print management, the latter bundled with a 3D printer. The ability of YSoft SafeQ to meet the scalability needs and global requirements of large enterprises is indicated by the growth in the number of customers Y Soft counts on the Global Fortune 500 list; 34 per cent in fiscal year 2018 compared to 31 per cent last fiscal year.

The company’s sales volumes are comprised of software (31%); support/professional services (40%); and hardware, including companion products for YSoft SafeQ – external terminals, card readers and 3D printers (21%). Y Soft is committed to supporting its channel partners and throughout the growth, partner satisfaction remained at a high 98 per cent satisfaction level. Additionally, in late fiscal year 2017, Y Soft expanded its manufacturing capabilities and expanded into China in anticipation of growth. In fiscal year 2018, Y Soft expanded its embedded terminal support with Epson, laid the groundwork for new areas of growth by expanding the board with two new positions, a seasoned CFO and a Senior Vice President of Finance.

YSoft SafeQ the first Mopria certified enterprise print server

Android users can now easily print without additional downloads or setting configurations and realise the benefits of enterprise print management

Sydney, Australia – Y Soft® Corporation, a leading enterprise office solution provider and Mopria Alliance member, has announced that YSoft SafeQ is the first Mopria certified enterprise print server.

Y Soft achieved the certification by closely working with the Mopria Alliance and developing a mobile integration gateway between Mopria Print Service and YSoft SafeQ 6 print server. The mobile integration gateway enables wireless printer discovery for any Android mobile device user including individual consumers or those within an enterprise. For the first time, Y Soft is making its technology – including pull printing, reporting and secure printing – available to all individual Android mobile device users by supporting the Mopria Print Service with the YSoft SafeQ print server. YSoft SafeQ enterprise users can also enjoy the full functionality of YSoft SafeQ through the mobile integration gateway.

The Mopria Print Service enables Android mobile device users to easily print to any Mopria certified printer with no additional setup. Mopria is supported by the world’s largest print manufacturers and the Mopria Print Service is available as a free download in the Google Play Store.

“With the YSoft SafeQ Print Server any Android mobile device user can easily print from their favorite app,” said Brent Richtsmeier, Chairperson of the Mopria Alliance Steering Committee. “Our certification process includes optimising the user experience and ensuring future and legacy interoperability. We are pleased to bestow certification on YSoft SafeQ as the first enterprise print server to earn the distinction.”

Prior to Mopria Print Service and the YSoft SafeQ Print Server, users had to go through various steps to attempt to connect their Android mobile device to a cloud-based printer. These steps included downloading specialised apps or complicated configurations on their computer.

The Mopria Print Service guarantees that users can print easily from Android applications that include a dedicated print button or by using the Share-to-Print feature when using the Mopria Print Service version 2.3. YSoft SafeQ Print Server is compatible with the current Mopria Print Service 2.3.

“Printing from mobile devices should be as simple as it is from the desktop,” said Wouter Koelewijn, Chief of Products, Y Soft Corp. “We are thrilled that the YSoft SafeQ print management technology we provide enterprise customers will now be available to any consumer who may use their Android mobile device for personal or business use through the Mopria Print Service and the YSoft SafeQ mobile integration gateway.”

Y Soft has been an Executive Member of the Mopria Alliance since 2016. It works closely with other alliance members such as Adobe, Canon, HP, Samsung, Xerox, Konica Minolta, Qualcomm, Lexmark, Kyocera, Toshiba, Brother, Epson, Fuji Xerox, Microsoft, NEC, Pantum, Ricoh, Sharp, Dell and Primax to simplify printing from smartphones, tablets and other devices.

Y Soft to expand and open new manufacturing facility

Larger capacity strengthens Y Soft’s business growth, future proofs hardware innovation and supports IoT related products from its Y Soft Venture portfolio companies

Sydney, Australia Y Soft, a leading enterprise workflow solution provider, has announced that it will move its production facility from its headquarters building in Brno, to a nearby, larger facility in the Brno Technology Park. The new, expanded facility will enable increased manufacturing capacity and high quality production infrastructure to support the company’s current increased growth and its future plans. The larger facility also helps Y Soft support the manufacturing of IoT related products from its Y Soft Venture’s portfolio companies.

Y Soft manufactures complementary hardware solutions for its YSoft SafeQ Enterprise Workflow Solution Platform. In the last year, demand for these hardware solutions has increased by more than 21 per cent. In particular, demand for its USB Card readers has been significant.

Additionally, a differentiating strength of Y Soft Ventures is to provide manufacturing, distribution and logistics know-how to its portfolio companies who have IoT-related products. These companies use Y Soft facilities and infrastructure to cost-effectively manufacture their products.

The new manufacturing facility is 1,200 square metres, three times larger than the current production area in the headquarters office. The new facility is situated near the company headquarters building ensuring that R&D and design teams can continue to closely collaborate with manufacturing personnel. The teams in ordering and logistics will also move to the new facility.

“As a strategic differentiator, Y Soft has always manufactured our own hardware to ensure quality and compatibility with our software solutions. With this long-term strategy commitment, increased demand and to future proof our ability to innovate on hardware solutions, we needed to secure additional capacity and capabilities,” said Vaclav Muchna, CEO and co-founder, Y Soft.

The new facility offered an opportunity for the most modern manufacturing machinery and enhanced technology for continual improvement. The production line will be 7 -10 times faster and each individual manufacturing machine will be connected to a central database so that data from all phases of production for every single product unit can be recorded and analysed.

“For example, we will be able to monitor and analyze the historical production data of every part of a printed circuit board at very detailed levels to seek ways to improve quality and manufacturing efficiency,” says Marcel Fejtek, COO and Head of Manufacturing, Y Soft.

The company plans to be fully operational in the new facility by the end of October. An official opening event will be held in early November where local city dignitaries, community leaders, and other interested parties can tour the facility and learn more about Y Soft’s manufacturing capabilities.
