Y Soft unveils premium 3D lesson plans and special EDU bundle to help educators use 3D printing in STEAM curriculum

New exclusive be3D Academy lesson plans available only to YSoft be3D eDee customers

Y Soft Corporation, the leading enterprise workflow solutions provider, has announced premium 3D lessons in YSoft be3D Academy and a new 3D/2D EDU bundle designed to save schools money by combining their regular 2D print management needs with Y Soft 3D printers.

3D printing in education is a growing market with more and more educational institutions adopting fleets of 3D printers to help STEAM classes illustrate difficult concepts, enhance hands-on interactive learning, and drive class engagement. To help support those efforts,
Y Soft worked with educators to develop YSoft be3D Academy. The online library of 3D curriculum features comprehensive lesson plans, guides, videos, models, and presentations. It provides everything needed to conduct a STEAM subject lesson using 3D printing. A model database provides additional models that teachers can use to build their own lessons.

While standard be3D Academy 3D lessons are available for anyone to use for free, Y Soft now provides premium 3D lesson plans exclusively for all eDee customers, including those that purchase the new EDU bundle. Premium lessons have the same rich resources as standard content, but only eDee customers can access them. Premium lessons are available today, and more will be added quarterly.

Elke Heisschief marketing officer, Y Soft, said, “These premium lessons, and the ones that follow, demonstrate our resolve to provide educators with easy to use and easy to follow lesson plans that help keep students engaged whether in a classroom or even at homeWe’ve learned from schools that these lessons have helped teachers quickly ramp up their home learning classes during the current work/study at home situation caused by COVID-19.”

Adam O’Neill, managing director, Australia and New Zealand, Y Soft, said, Feedback from customers in Australia has been positive as they have moved to a learning at home situation. With be3D Academy teachers have been able to access practical content quickly and easily. This includes being able to bring teachers up to speed, even those with little to no experience in 3D printing, because of the comprehensiveness and easy-to-follow curriculum provided.

The files can either be printed by staff still onsite who can then share photos of the finished product with the students or the design files can be saved for when the students go back to school. According to one school be3D Academy was a lifesaver by providing lessons and activities that could engage the students in a practical way, even though they were at home.

EDU bundle

Y Soft also announced new affordable educationfocused EDU bundle that includes everything a school needs to start leveraging 3D printing in their classrooms. With scarce resources, educators need to be efficient in their print services offerings while finding new ways to engage students in learning. The EDU bundle combines print management for a school’s 2D printers and 3D printers, accomplished through YSoft SafeQ, the company’s print management and document capture software. Combining their print management options and leveraging available grant monies allows schools to justify the investment into 3D printing.

The EDU bundle includes:

  • YSoft be3D eDee printer, a desktop 3D printer with an enclosed chassis for safety
  • three years of free access to premium 3D lessons in YSoft be3D Academy

Turramurra High School successfully pilots YSoft be3D Academy

Online library of 3D lessons assists educators in using 3D printing in the classroom

Y Soft® Corporation has announced that Turramurra High School has become the first school in Australia to use be3D Academy as part of its STEAM curriculum using 3D printing. be3D Academy, which was launched in November 2019, is an online library that offers an assortment of resource rich 3D lesson plans to help teachers use 3D printing in the classroom.

3D printing provides students with alternative ways of learning, rather than the traditional classroom setting and brings subjects, especially complex STEAM subjects, to life in the classroom.

3D printing lets students interact with subject matter to kinaesthetically learn and problem solve. Through exciting projects contained in the 3D lessons available through be3D Academy, educators can provide the motivation and freedom to students with hands-on immersive learning tools.

The teacher-tested projects in be3D Academy include a variety of videos, student worksheets and 3D model files to assist educators in incorporating 3D printing as a learning aid. Lessons in be3D Academy also specify the science, technology, engineering, arts, mathematics (STEAM) or design concepts that each project explores.

Through be3D Academy, Turramurra High School has increased students’ access to emerging technologies. Y Soft provided Turramurra High with five YSoft be3D eDee™ 3D printers to use for the be3D Academy pilot. eDee, a 3D printing solution, is designed for the education sector and includes the eDee printer and YSoft SafeQ 3D print management to securely, efficiently manage and control 3D printing. YSoft be3D eDee 3D printers have simple-to-use touch screens, clear step-by-step instructions for students, and increased safety measures, including lockable doors, and uses non-toxic PLA filament materials.

be3D Academy comes with already-prepared 3D lessons plans, letting teachers spend more time with students. These 3D lessons have been developed to fit within the Australian curriculum, with quality projects that encourage critical thinking. Students can see their concepts and designs become a finished product in a matter of hours. be3D Academy’s 3D lessons can be adjusted for different skill levels so students gain maximum value.

Will Delves, Year 12 assistant adviser, relieving head teacher of industrial arts, Turramurra High School, said, “Students definitely have an advantage having access to 3D printing. 3D printers let us facilitate transformative learning, which increases students’ ability to be creative and collaborative when learning.

“The students really enjoyed the program and it was also easy to teach as everything that was needed to run the 3D lessons was provided in be3D Academy, from worksheets to video resources. We even had a relief teacher with no previous experience in 3D run one of the projects with no issues. The 3D printing process was great for students, especially for visual learners, with clear and simple touch screen instructions and prompts. The added feature of lockable doors during printing, preventing access to filament materials, and the fact that materials were non-toxic also greatly increased the safety from a teacher’s perspective.”

Adam O’Neill, managing director, Australia and New Zealand, Y Soft, said, “3D printing is a great opportunity to increase access to emerging technologies for students and teachers alike. With YSoft be3D eDee we’ve made 3D printing easy. Now, with be3D Academy, teachers don’t need to worry about researching for materials to cover in classes as there is a variety of pre-planned 3D lessons available to pick and choose from.

“It’s important for students to have access to technologies that prepare them for future jobs. 3D printing and be3D Academy not only educates students on how to use and interact with such emerging technology, but it also gives them an opportunity to be innovative while self-learning. They can easily access the 3D model database on be3D Academy and print out any model they want.”

With great results from the 3D printing pilot, the school is now looking at how to extend the use of be3D Academy and 3D printing throughout the school.

Will Delves said, “Even teachers from more traditional core subjects have shown an interest in adding 3D printing to their lessons. The geography teacher is looking at incorporating 3D printing by having students design and print houses, which will be used to make a residential block, and bring to life town planning.”

Y Soft launches be3D Academy, an online collection of 3D lessons for educators

Teacher-tested lesson plans in STEAM subjects aid classroom instruction and immersive learning

Y Soft Corporation, has announced be3D Academy™, an online collection of 3D resources and lesson plans designed to make it easy to teach in 3D. be3D Academy is now available to educators as an additional part of YSoft be3D eDee®, a 3D printing solution designed specifically for education.

While the benefits of 3D printing in the classroom, as an immersive learning tool that engages students and makes difficult subjects easier to understand, are well understood, many educators have neither the time nor the 3D knowledge to develop lesson plans that incorporate 3D printing.

Yet, even with these barriers, schools are increasing their 3D printing adoption. Our own research (1) shows that 77 per cent of schools planned on expanding the use of 3D printing in their schools. IDC analyst, Tim Greene, stated: “We have observed the adoption of 3D printing in education not only in engineering curriculums in higher education but the technology has made its way into K-12 institutions with the recognition that this skill set will be essential in the future.” (2)

From day one, Y Soft has worked with educators around the world to understand how 3D printing could seamlessly be part of classroom learning. By designing safety features for the eDee 3D printer and ensuring that the entire flow, from design to printed 3D model, was easy for school-aged children to use without direct supervision, eDee® has continued to meet the needs of educators. With be3D Academy, educators now have an online resource of teacher-tested science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematic (STEAM) projects that quickly bring classroom subjects to life.

Each be3D Academy lesson plan offers educators a variety of tools, including 3D model files, videos, student worksheets, and presentations to help introduce the 3D project to students. Each lesson indicates the STEAM or design concepts that the project explores. be3D Academy also includes video tutorials and a 3D model database containing ready-made models that can be printed using the YSoft be3D eDee printer.

Teacher approved

Robert Havlásek, a mathematics and informatics teacher at GML Brno, said, “Our students enjoy using 3D printing in the classroom. We can see comprehension levels rising. I like that Y Soft really listens to our feedback in creating an online library of 3D printing projects for Education.”

Joseph Martindale, teacher at The Hills Sports High School, said, “The implementation of the be3D eDee printers in our classrooms has had a significant impact on the educational outcomes of our students. Utilising “ready to teach” lesson plans from the be3D Academy has provided a streamlined process for implementing effective learning intentions and has been vital in our STEM programming and implementation. Students have loved seeing their designs come to life and enjoy exploring the opportunities 3D printing provided in both the working world and the classroom.”

Elke Heiss, Y Soft Chief Marketing Officer, said, “3D printing is particularly valuable in the classroom to convey complex subjects. When students can touch and adjust physical objects they have created, understanding increases. Comprehension of STEAM subjects can be difficult, and be3D Academy’s lessons make concepts interesting and fun. be3D Academy lesson plans range from creating castles to understanding geometric shapes and volumes to creating a Da Vinci bridge as a science learning project.”

be3D Academy is open to any educator interested in bringing the benefits of 3D printing to the classroom. The lessons and provided 3D models are designed and optimised for use on YSoft be3D eDee printers with Y Soft certified filaments. be3D Academy can be found at: be3dacademy.ysoft.com

YSoft SafeQ workflow solutions platform and YSoft be3D eDee now generally available

YSoft LogoY Soft, a leading enterprise office solutions provider, has announced the general availability of the YSoft SafeQ workflow solutions platform and YSoft be3D eDee, the industry’s first 3D printer with print management. The latest version of YSoft SafeQ is now an integrated platform offering print management, document capture and 3D print management for reducing costs, improving productivity, and increasing document and object security.

Since announcing the YSoft SafeQ workflow solutions platform and YSoft be3D eDee in mid-March this year, partners and customers have been using the two new solutions via the company’s Early Access Release program. Now released globally, all customers can take advantage of these new capabilities:

– Document capture with automated workflows – while organisations have been enjoying the benefits of centralised print management, a need existed for integrating automated workflow solutions with centralised print management. With this integration, IT organisations can provide cost savings, productivity improvements and document security from one single application.
Sixty-seven per cent of YSoft partners and customers who participated in the Early Access Release of YSoft SafeQ indicated that the integrated automated workflow was the most anticipated new feature of YSoft SafeQ.

– Client Based Print Roaming (CBPR) – an expansion on YSoft SafeQ’s Print Roaming feature, CBPR lets complex tasks associated with printing be performed on the client workstation. This means fewer and less expensive servers are needed to support existing users and can easily scale for new users.

– Multitenancy – uses the shared economy concept, letting print service providers manage multiple customers using one instance of YSoft SafeQ, where total costs for hardware and software are shared amongst several companies.

– YSoft SafeQ Mobile Terminal – a mobile app that can be used with any multifunction device and is also a cost saving choice for devices without an embedded terminal option.

– YSoft be3D eDee, the first 3D print solution that integrates a 3D printer with YSoft SafeQ, offering comprehensive print management and accounting system designed for the Education market.

– YSoft USB Card Reader 3 is the newest and smallest card reader offering a popular way to access YSoft SafeQ functionality embedded in the major brands of multifunction devices. The card reader allows users to swipe their identification card on the reader to quickly and easily authenticate their access to the print device.

IDC notes the importance of document capture and automated workflow in a recent IDC PlanScape, “The opportunity to digitise, automate, and optimise document-intensive workflows is an area that is frequently overlooked by business leaders but is one that can provide both tactical and strategic advantages for organisations,” says Holly Muscolino, research vice president, Imaging, Printing, and Document Solutions.[1]

IDC also commented on the YSoft be3D eDee solution, “IDC believes this announcement demonstrates the changing needs for management of 3D printers, especially as they enter heavily controlled 2D printing environments. eDee represents a way in which the company can help address the demands of accelerator technology by leveraging the knowledge gained from the traditional hardcopy market.”[2]

“We are inspired by the feedback we received in developing YSoft SafeQ as a platform and in introducing the industry’s first print management solution for 3D printers,” said Václav Muchna, Y Soft CEO and co-founder. “It speaks to the need organisations have for enterprise office workflow solutions that help IT bring value not only in keeping costs in check but in improving productivity.”
