Spectralink launches new camera/barcode scanner for the PIVOT Enterprise Smartphone

Wavelink Logo Sydney, AustraliaSpectralink Corporation, the global leader in enterprise mobility solutions for the healthcare, retail, manufacturing and hospitality industries, has launched a new dual-mode camera/barcode scanner for its PIVOT™:SC (8744) enterprise smartphone, a new multi-charger base station for its 87-Series Wi-Fi smartphones and two device management tools to streamline mobile deployment and management.

PIVOT dual-mode camera/barcode scanner

Based on the Android™ platform, the Spectralink PIVOT:SC incorporates a slim, streamlined design with an 8-Megapixel camera and new barcode scanner that integrates with Google™ Mobile Services (including Google Play™ and other Google applications) and XML applications. This new dual-mode camera/barcode scanner allows users to switch easily from camera to scanner mode, offering both capabilities in one streamlined unit, without the burden of additional weight from dedicated barcode scanning hardware. Users can flexibly select which buttons they want to initiate scanning from or simply tap the screen. The camera flash is optimised to facilitate fast aiming from any angle without having to use the display to view the barcode. Current Spectralink PIVOT:SC customers can easily add barcode scanning to their devices with the addition of a license to upgrade their devices to this latest version.

Spectralink developed the PIVOT:SC’s dual-mode camera/barcode scanner in association with Code Corporation, a manufacturer of advanced barcode reading imaging devices and systems, and the developer of CortexDecoder, a sophisticated and highly intelligent suite of image-based barcode decoding algorithms. Code’s software and hardware solutions are designed to easily integrate into streamlined, lightweight devices like the PIVOT:SC for use by mobile workers in industries such as healthcare and manufacturing. “It was a pleasure working with Spectralink on the integration of CortexDecoder into the PIVOT:SC,” said Garrett Russell, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Code. “Adding the market-proven barcode reading performance of CortexDecoder to the advanced computing and communication capabilities of the PIVOT:SC delivers a powerful solution in a sleek form factor that will streamline the user experience.”

PIVOT multi-charger base station

Spectralink is also introducing a new PIVOT multi-charger solution to expand current PIVOT charging options. This multi-charger can be used for the PIVOT:SC (8744) and the PIVOT: S (8742) enterprise smartphones, and its innovative, interchangeable modular design is configurable to the enterprise’s charging needs. From simple to complex configurations, the multi-charger only uses one power cord for two base stations, which simplifies management and conserves space. Additionally, the desktop charger is a smart device that lets the PIVOT transfer data while charging.

Device management tools

Also helping enterprises get the most out of their PIVOT solutions are two new device management tools that simplify PIVOT deployment and management. The Quick Network Connect (QNC) streamlines deployment to get the PIVOT connected to the wireless enterprise network with minimal effort. The Configuration Management Server (CMS) allows administrators to easily customise and configure their PIVOT deployment to their facility, and also helps IT Departments manage deployed PIVOT smartphones with greater visibility and insight to keep their networks running smoothly. Both device management tools are designed to simplify management, improve service levels, reduce network downtime and save money.

“Spectralink is excited to offer enterprises these new enhancements for the PIVOT smartphone. Our portfolio is built around innovation that enables specific mobility use cases for enterprise customers,” said Ashish Sharma, CMO of Spectralink Corporation. “We are consistently looking to enhance our mobility solutions to focus on better serving our customers’ needs and helping them to be more successful.”

Wavelink launches new Health Practice

Wavelink LogoWavelink, a value-added distributor of enterprise mobility and unified communications solutions, today launched its new health practice.  Paul Craven has been appointed to lead the health practice, with a focus on bringing together solutions for Wavelink’s partners targeting  public hospitals, private healthcare groups, and aged care facilities across Australia and New Zealand (ANZ).

The establishment of the Health Practice provides a level of specialisation to Wavelink’s partners by providing end customers with comprehensive solutions, not just hardware.  The premise of the practice is to build solutions from use cases that improve patient care and drive operational efficiency. Examples of such use cases includes location-based services, duress, surveillance, and workflow management. Wavelink is striving to provide technologies to its partners that can relate back to their customers’ needs.

Ilan Rubin, managing director, Wavelink, said, “Building on our extensive foundation in the industry, Wavelink has now formally established the Health Practice and undertaken a number of important steps to ensure an even greater focus on this growing market sector. This not only includes the appointment of Paul Craven, a seasoned industry professional with extensive experience in public health, who will head up the practice, but we have also invested heavily  in our product portfolio by bringing on new vendors that can meet the unique demands of the healthcare sector.”

Paul Craven, Health Practice lead, Wavelink, said, “The healthcare sector continues to make significant investment in IT. In the aged care sector alone there are currently 190,000 beds in Australia with an additional 82,000 beds expected to be required by 2022. With the ratio of staff-to-beds not currently mandated, and increased pressure on staff due to the growing number of highly-dependent residents, the need for solutions specifically targeted at this sector is huge.”

To further support the Health Practice, Wavelink will distribute a number of additional related products and applications, which complement its core Spectralink offering, including:

– Australian-based Olinqua solutions, which deliver duress, messaging, location tracking, and task management into healthcare
– Canadian SOTI enterprise mobility management solutions encompassing mobile security and device management
– LAS middleware solutions, which enable wireless devices to communicate with a range of nursecall, messaging, and alarm systems predominantly in the aged care space
– COBS Smart1 DECT (for voice) devices with an integrated Android app platform with Wi-Fi (for data), announced in June 2016.

Ilan Rubin said, “There is a great opportunity for Wavelink to tap into this market through the creation of its Health Practice. The Health Practice will ensure that organisations can deliver the clinical applications needed by healthcare professionals to improve patient care and provider responsiveness now, and in the future.”

Digium launches next-generation IP phones for Asterisk and Switchvox phone systems

Wavelink Logo

Digium®, Inc., the Asterisk® Company, has announced the release of its line of next-generation IP phones, the D65, D62 and D60. Digium phones are the only IP handsets specifically engineered to fully leverage the power of Asterisk, the world’s most widely-adopted open source communications software, and Switchvox, Digium’s award-winning unified communications (UC) system. The new models feature a large, colour display with modern design and a sleek footprint that appeals to businesses of all sizes and users who desire state-of-the-art technology.

The newly released Digium phones include the following models:
• D65 – An executive-level, feature-rich HD phone with a 4.3 inch colour display, wireless headset support, 6-line keys with 20 scrolling pages of Rapid Dial/Busy Lamp Field (BLF) keys, and dual 10/100/1000 Mbps network ports. This model is ideal for executives and users who need a colour display, top-of-the-line features, and require Gigabit networking.
• D62 – A mid-level HD phone with a 4.3 inch colour display, 2-line keys, and dual 10/100/1000 Mbps network ports. This is Digium’s best value for users who need a colour display and require Gigabit networking.
• D60 – An entry-level HD phone with a 4.3 inch colour display, 2-line keys, and dual 10/100 Mbps network ports. The D60 is Digium’s best value for any user who needs a colour display, but does not require Gigabit networking.

“Digium phones are the only phones tightly integrated with Asterisk and Asterisk-based phone systems, including Digium’s Switchvox. No other phones on the market offer their advanced feature set,” said Malcolm Davenport, Digium senior product manager. “In addition to easy plug-and-play deployment, all models include the Digium Phone App Engine, which enables the phones to run user-developed JavaScript applications to enhance productivity. Apps like interactive voicemail, visual call parking, one-touch call recording, searchable contact directory, and presence management, all take advantage of the unique and rich data connection between Digium phones and Asterisk.”

Launching alongside the next-generation Digium IP phones is a new release of Switchvox, version 6.3. New features include multicast audio and call parking enhancements. Multicast audio support enables phones to receive wide-area announcements and pages without consuming additional resources on a Switchvox system. A significant enhancement to call parking allows users to create multiple custom-defined parking lots and assign them to different users and groups.

The new Digium phone models are now available.

Fortinet closes acquisition of Meru Networks

Wavelink LogoFortinet (NASDAQ: FTNT), the global leader in high-performance cyber security solutions, has announced it has closed the acquisition of Meru Networks (NASDAQ:MERU), a leader in intelligent Wi-Fi networking. With the close of this acquisition, Fortinet expands on its secure wireless vision and enterprise growth focus, broadens the company’s solutions portfolio, and expands its opportunity to uniquely address the $5B global enterprise Wi-Fi market with integrated and intelligent secure wireless solutions.

Fortinet’s proven solutions in secure Wi-Fi markets, with its FortiAP secure wireless access points and FortiWiFi integrated security appliances for enterprise branch offices and small businesses have been among the fastest growing products in the company’s “advanced technologies” portfolio. The addition of Meru’s intelligent Wi-Fi solutions to the Fortinet portfolio extends the delivery of a secure, uninterrupted user experience – anytime anywhere – providing peak performance in environments requiring high capacity load and a high-density of wireless users, such as enterprise, education, healthcare, and hospitality.

“To truly protect against all possible attack vectors, we are continuing to expand our market-leading end-to-end security platform to provide customers with the visibility and continuous threat protection they need – from the data centre, to the cloud to the end-point,” said Ken Xie, founder, chairman and CEO of Fortinet. “We expect the acquisition of Meru to help us deliver new solutions and services to help enterprises of all sizes deploy, manage, and secure wired and wireless networks in a mobile era.”

Fortinet and Meru customers will benefit from Fortinet’s commitment to providing secure, uninterrupted connectivity for their highly mobile end-users, while offering channel partners a broader solutions portfolio to take to market.

With the completion of the transaction, Meru employees officially join Fortinet.

In connection with the acquisition, Fortinet is paying $1.63 per Meru share in cash, an equity value of approximately $44 million for the transaction. Fortinet first completed the tender offer for all outstanding shares of Meru by accepting for payment all such shares validly tendered and not properly withdrawn as of the expiration time of the tender offer, which represented approximately 60.18% of Meru’s outstanding shares. Subsequently, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Fortinet merged with and into Meru, resulting in Meru becoming a wholly owned subsidiary of Fortinet. As a result of the merger, all remaining shares of Meru not purchased by Fortinet in the tender offer (other than shares owned by Meru, Fortinet or their subsidiaries and shares subject to properly exercised appraisal rights claims) were converted into the right to receive the aforementioned cash payment. All shares of Meru are expected to be delisted from the NASDAQ stock market.

Spectralink refreshes DECT handset portfolio of WorkSmart products

Wavelink LogoSeptember 8, 2015 — Spectralink Corporation (“Spectralink”), a global leader in wireless solutions for the workplace, has has announced a refresh of its 7000 Portfolio of DECT handsets, along with the addition of new models to the series to even better meet end user needs.

In today’s connected world, organisations are increasingly looking for devices that offer flexible mobility alongside the secure reliability required for the workplace. Designed with reliability and durability in mind, the Spectralink 7000 Portfolio handsets are built to address these challenges. They cater especially to usage within demanding workplace environments like those of the retail, manufacturing and healthcare sectors.

Spectralink will be rolling out upgrades to its 7000 Portfolio of handsets over the course of the remainder of the year, with updates to the functionality, design and usability of the devices.

“The latest refresh of Spectralink’s DECT portfolio demonstrates our continued dedication to solving the growing demand for workplace mobility and communications,” said Dan Mondor, CEO, Spectralink Corporation. “By adding new functionality to the DECT handsets, staff can be more efficient while also ensuring they operate safely in the most demanding workplace environments.”

The first of these updates is the 7522 DECT handset, which maintains the form factor’s elegant yet robust existing feature set, including a large colour display and intuitive menu structure, while also providing support for Software Updates over the Air (SUOTA). This means that device software can be updated quickly and easily from a central location over the air, rather than having each handset manually updated. The Spectralink 7522 is now available in Australia and New Zealand.

Going forward, Spectralink will be implementing further upgrades to the handset portfolio. The changes will bring newer industrial design, features and technology to the devices, while retaining the robust long-term dependability catering to harsh environments.

Built for users with a focus on usability, functionality, design and quality, the Spectralink 7000 Portfolio handsets consist of a wide range of reliable and durable models. They are specialised for use in environments from general office applications to intrinsically safe surroundings. Additionally, the handsets support integration with third-party applications to maximise their performance in manufacturing and healthcare environments. All Spectralink 7000 Portfolio handsets are interoperable allowing for deployments with a mix of handsets.
