Amber Technology has announced the availability of DPA Microphones’ new 6388 CORE+ Headset Microphone in Australia and New Zealand. This high-performance directional headset is designed for demanding live environments where clarity, feedback rejection, and ease of use are critical.
Among the key technical advantages of the 6388 CORE+ are its physically asymmetrical design and the shifted acoustical axis of the microphone capsule. Together with the tightly controlled proximity effect, these features make it significantly less sensitive to exact placement and ensure consistent, high-quality sound, even if the headset is repositioned during a performance. This added flexibility reduces the need for precise positioning and simplifies operation for sound engineers.
The supercardioid microphone also features DPA’s patent-pending CORE+ technology and is suited to environments requiring clear voice isolation, including theatre and live performance, broadcast and sports, houses of worship, corporate events, and conferences.
The design gives sound engineers greater flexibility while reducing the need for precise microphone positioning.
Building on DPA’s directional headset legacy
Building on DPA’s 4088 Directional Capsule, the 6388 CORE+ offers enhanced feedback rejection, greater clarity, and consistent performance in real-world environments.
The supercardioid microphone delivers natural audio alongside strong noise rejection and voice isolation.
“Directional headset microphones are used in the most demanding environments, where high ambient sound pressure, stage noise, and the need for high gain-before-feedback put extreme pressure on performance, while expectations for natural sound, intelligibility, comfort and ease of use remain unchanged,” said Helga Somava, director of product management, DPA Microphones.
“The 6388 CORE+ moves beyond these compromises to deliver exceptional performance across sound engineers’ needs. The combination of an optimised acoustic design with CORE+ technology, highly controlled proximity, and directional response helps deliver DPA’s renowned natural and authentic sound with exceptional consistency.”
Flexible positioning for demanding environments
Unlike traditional directional headset microphones, the 6388 CORE+ features switchable boom placement for use on either the left or right side.
Combined with its asymmetrical capsule design and shifted acoustical axis, the microphone can be positioned discreetly beside or slightly behind the speaker or performer’s mouth. This placement is designed to reduce plosives and noise without affecting tonal accuracy, supporting speech intelligibility in complex acoustic environments.
The microphone maintains consistent directionality across frequencies for predictable linear off-axis rejection and stable tonal balance. This provides strong isolation, reduced stage bleed, and improved gain-before-feedback performance for loud stages.
Its wide dynamic range accommodates both soft and powerful vocal delivery, while its forgiving placement is designed to help professional and volunteer users achieve reliable results.
Engineered for professional applications, the 6388 CORE+ has an IP58 rating for resistance to dust and humidity. Modular connection options provide compatibility with major wireless systems.
The headset is available in multiple colours, sizes, and termination options to suit different production requirements. Its frame is a fine-tuned version of DPA’s Act Headset Frame, designed to provide a secure, stable fit and all-day comfort.
