Amber Technology brings Sonance VX Ultra Thin-Line architectural speaker to Australia

August 2026

Amber Technology has announced the Australian availability of the Sonance VX52R UTL Ultra Thin-Line speaker, the latest addition to the Sonance Visual Experience (VX) Series. With an ultra-slim mounting depth of 35.7 mm, the new architectural speaker brings Sonance VX performance to installations where ceiling space is limited.

The VX52R UTL extends the Visual Experience Series into applications where standard architectural speakers may not fit, including multi-dwelling units, high-rise developments, concrete construction, commercial retrofits, and residential renovations. Its shallow design can accommodate 2.5-inch metal framing used in concrete ceiling applications, giving integrators greater flexibility when working with space and structural constraints.

At 35.7 mm (1.41 inches) deep, the 6-inch round VX52R UTL combines a compact form with Sonance acoustic technologies that support consistent performance across an installation.

High-performance audio for space-constrained installations

The VX52R UTL incorporates technologies from the wider Sonance Visual Experience Series, including the proprietary CDX crossover and VX Sinusoidal Waveguide. The waveguide provides wide, consistent coverage and minimises off-axis colouration, while the redesigned driver architecture combines a 5.25-inch polypropylene woofer with a 0.75-inch silk dome tweeter.

Key features include:

  • shallow 35.7 mm mounting depth for applications with limited ceiling space
  • redesigned 5.25-inch polypropylene woofer and 0.75-inch silk dome tweeter
  • Sonance CDX crossover to optimise driver integration and frequency response
  • VX Sinusoidal Waveguide for wide, consistent sound coverage
  • frequency response from 55 Hz to 20 kHz
  • compatibility with existing 6-inch VX accessories for consistent aesthetics and installation flexibility
  • paintable grille options including MicroTrim, Trimless, and Sonance TRUFIG Flush Mounted configurations.

The ultra-thin form gives integrators another option for projects where architectural constraints can make speaker placement challenging. Applications include concrete ceilings, shallow ceiling cavities, historic renovations, offices, hotels, retail spaces, apartments, and other projects with limited mounting depth.

Alberto Zamudio, general manager, Residential Install, Amber Technology, said, “The Sonance VX Ultra Thin-Line gives integrators more flexibility to deliver high-performance architectural audio in projects where space is at a premium. Its shallow mounting depth handles applications that can be difficult to address with conventional architectural speakers, while maintaining the design consistency and installation approach of the wider VX Series.

“For our integration partners, that means fewer compromises when working with concrete construction, shallow ceiling cavities, and other challenging environments. It’s a practical addition to the Sonance portfolio that helps integrators tailor audio solutions to the architecture of each project.”

Designed to integrate with the wider VX Series

The VX52R UTL uses the same installation approach as the wider Visual Experience Series and is compatible with Sonance 6-inch VX accessories, helping integrators maintain a consistent look across projects that combine standard and shallow-depth speakers.

With an 8 ohm impedance and 89 dB sensitivity, the VX52R UTL suits a range of distributed audio systems and amplification platforms. Its 210 mm cut-out diameter and range of paintable grille options support Sonance’s discreet approach to integrating audio technology into architectural spaces.

The VX52R UTL succeeds Sonance’s VP Series ultra-thin model and expands the Visual Experience Series for residential and commercial projects where installation depth is a key consideration.

The Sonance VX52R UTL Ultra Thin-Line speaker is available in Australia through Amber Technology’s authorised dealer and integration partner network.
